Who Needs PA Training

Update 8/20/13 Had a problem with the original version that if you already had training it kept running. Added another check back in, should be good to go now. Requires Fallout Script Extender (Fose). Description: This is a relatively simple adjustment to let the player use Power Armor at any point in the game. The catch is if you don\'t have the actual PA training perk, you get hit with a stiff penalty. I didn\'t like the binary nature of you either could or couldn\'t, while any NPC could wear it just fine. At the same time, I didn\'t want to devalue attaining the perk, whether getting it normally or from one of the several mods that add new ways of gaining it. Has This Already Been Done? I looked around, didn\'t see anything exactly like it. There are other mods that allow you to get PA training as a selectable perk, and mods that allow you to just use PA with no penalties. Others bypass the regular training perk and then give a PA bonus when you do get it. All good ideas, just not exactly what I wanted. How It Works: A script that runs in the background. When first loaded, it sets it so you can use any PA. It then keeps running until you get the real Training perk. Until then, it checks to see if you\'re wearing PA or not. If you are, you get the penalties, which are removed when the armor is. The Penalties: Agility and Strength - 3 (working against the weight, fighting the hydraulics, servos, whatever they use) Endurance and Perception - 1 (it\'s hot and uncomfortable, hard to concentrate on outer surroundings) Damage Resistance - 5% (part of the armor\'s AR should be negated, but not all) Movement - 15% (again, working against the weight and all) Carry Weight + 30 (this is to tone down the effect of the Str penalty, otherwise you\'ll easily find yourself OverEncumbered just by putting the armor on.) Basically the idea is you don\'t know how to power it, at least not properly. I could do both more and less severe versions. I don\'t think it\'s worth a tiered system with multiple levels though. Compatibility: Fairly compatible with everything. It just checks the IsPowerArmor setting on armors. Shuts itself off once you\'ve gained the real Training Perk, so it\'s just a matter of if it would work for you. Works with any stat change type mods or replacers. As for other PA Training mods, it depends how they grant it. The vanilla sets a quest stage, which is what I use to turn off the penalties. Other training mods that work like vanilla will be compatible, as my mod will shut off properly. Otherwise my mod would continue running until you got the normal training. In that case of course you could just turn it off. Recommended: My other mod of course, Early Enclave, so you can get some PA early on.
