📋 About This Mod
Improves the Gauss Rifle to be more powerful without being too overpowered, increased magazine capacity to 5 and damage from 100 to 120, optional file adds two Gauss Rifles to the Citadel.
Description
The Gauss Rifle is a cool weapon but it feels underwhelming when you have to reload an MF cell after every shot with an infinite magazine because "reasons" so I decided to increase the mag capacity to 5 as with the diameter of the barrel and the size of the magazine it looks like it should hold about 5-6 rounds, I'm not skilled in animation so no new reload animation but having more than one round per reload makes the Gauss Rifle feel much better to use without being too overpowered in my opinion. I also increased the base damage from 100 to 120 and removed energy resistance from it, the gauss rifle shoots a solid projectile regardless of it being an energy weapon so it simply doesn't make sense for energy resist to affect the damage and this weapon was designed to wreck power armor so a damage increase seemed appropriate. Companions can now use the Gauss Rifle and finally the Gauss Rifle of Fallout 3 and NV doesn't have much lore but it is implied to be a Chinese design given it's inclusion in a Chinese propaganda poster alongside the Chinese Assault Rifle, The simulation itself is not an accurate representation of The Battle of Anchorage but it doesn't make any sense why General Chase would have an American weapon in Chinese propaganda. Furthermore a possible oversight but more likely just a gameplay choice is that it uses MF Cells and as far as I know the Chinese didn't have access to Microfusion tech on the level the U. S. did, It's entirely possible they just used captured MF Cells or reverse engineered their own but relying on a technology you have limited access to as your main anti-armor weapon doesn't make much sense. That being said I came up with a bit of lore to explain it's use by American troops as well as the increased magazine capacity and why it uses MF Cells.
Type 74-A Gauss Rifle
The Type 74 is a Gauss Rifle of Chinese origin, After the success of the German M72 Gauss Rifle and further advancements in American Power Armor the Chinese government began developing their own domestic design for anti-armor use. It was a very different take on this type of weapon compared to the German M72, The Type 74 is much more powerful on a per shot basis but at the cost of higher power consumption and much lower energy efficiency, despite having a 5 round magazine the Type 74 could only fire once before the power cell needed to be replaced, this severely lowered the fire rate compared to the semi-automatic M72. During The Battle of Anchorage U. S. shock troops were greatly hindered by the deployment of Type 74s but some were captured by the U. S. and turned on the Chinese forces, during this time a number of captured units were sent back to the U. S. to be reverse engineered, it was modified to use standard Microfusion Cells and was optimized for greater power efficiency per shot, this allows it to fire a full magazine before both the MF C📊 Mod Details
