How to Begin Follower Quests (Spoilers)

If you want to play through a follower's unmarked quest, here's how! Be aware this will spoil how the quest begins.

  • []Barnaby - Speak to him about the raider.[/]

[]Carmen - Pass a perception check after she shoots her laser rifle, or take her outside the Citadel. Earn her trust by completing enough base-game side quests that help people. (She will comment on their outcomes.) Complete the Waters of Life. Talk to her again.[/]

[]Esmeralda - Exhaust her dialogue options and gain Protector Casdin's trust in The Outcast Collection Agent. Speak to her again.[/]

[]Finn -- Complete The Waters of Life. Go to the Failed Enclave Encampment directly north of Little Lamplight. There are other triggers, such as receiving a radio signal by fast traveling to a marked location close to the encampment or by picking up a special note at some of the base-game Enclave camps. (These only happen after The Waters of Life.)[/]

[]Francis - Talk to him outside of the Brass Lantern and ask him how he wants to help Megaton.[/]

[]Ivy - Speak to her at least 5 times after recruiting her to unlock a hidden dialogue option.[/]

[]Lewis - Take him to the Rivet City Science Lab, Megaton Water Processing Plant, and Citadel Lab. Speak to him in each location.[/]

[]Maria - Recruit Maria. Talk to people who have a strong mission/conviction (ex: Moira Brown, Three Dog, Harkness) to earn Maria's trust.[/]

[]Noel - Talk to him after recruiting him.[/]

[]Phoebe - Exhaust her dialogue options and take her to Tenpenny Tower.[/]

[]Specialist Allen - Speak to him in Underworld while having an energy weapon equipped.[/]

[]Thomas - Speak to him outside the Super Duper Mart.[/]

[]Travis Anderson (Recruit) - Speak to him about Dr. Li's assignment.[/]

[]Travis Anderson (Marked) - While he is a follower, ask him what he wants to do while traveling together.[/]

[]Weston - Free him from Evergreen Mills. Exhaust all dialogue options. Complete the Pitt DLC by siding with Wernher. Speak to Weston again.[/]

📊 Pros & Cons

✅ Pros

  • Adds real quest content for followers, not just cosmetic companions — each has a unique unmarked quest with its own trigger conditions.
  • Detailed spoiler guide tells you exactly how to start each follower's quest, saving you from trial-and-error.
  • Last updated August 2026, so it's current for recent game versions and likely stable.

⚠️ Cons

  • No install instructions provided in the description — you'll need to already know how to manually install Fallout 3 mods or use a mod manager.
  • Follower locations are shown only in images, which can be hard to read or inaccessible for some users.
  • Unmarked quests have very specific triggers that are easy to miss if you don't read the spoiler section, and some require completing main story milestones like The Waters of Life.
🎯 Is This For You?
For Fallout 3 players who want new companions with actual story content and hidden quests, not just generic followers. If you enjoy unmarked quests and exploring every dialogue option, this mod gives you multiple new characters to dig into. Skip if you prefer simple plug-and-play companions without quest prerequisites or if you dislike reading spoilers to unlock content.

💡 Beginner Tips

  • Use a mod manager like Vortex or FOMM to install — this mod likely only requires dropping files into the Data folder, but a manager keeps load order clean.
  • Read the spoiler section in the description before recruiting followers, so you know what conditions to meet for their personal quests.
  • If you use other follower mods, place this mod after any companion overhauls in your load order to avoid conflicts.
