Fable Script Extender

PLEASE READ: From now on the newer versions of FableScriptExtender will be automatically installed with EgoCore. I would strongly suggest you install FSE through EgoCore for simplicity sake.

Since the original launch in 2004, Fable fans have asked one question more than any other:

"Can we make new quests?"

For over two decades, the answer was "no".

Today, I am proud to announce that the answer is finally "yes".

Fable Script Extender (FSE) is a full DLL-based scripting engine for Fable: The Lost Chapters that integrates a full Lua scripting engine into the game. It hooks into the game's startup process to replace the native, compiled C++ script handling with a custom Lua interpreter. This allows the game to load and execute external Lua files as if they were native game scripts.

Fable Script Extender removes the hard limits of the original Fable engine for modders.

  []Full Engine Access: It exposes thousands of internal engine functions, giving you direct control over the world state (weather, time), UI, and individual entity AI.[/]

  []Limitless Potential: This is the foundational tool required to create content previously thought impossible. Whatever the game already does in terms of scripting, you can do too and more.[/]

  Extract the contents of the archive inside your game directory.

  IMPORTANT: FSE works only with Fable: The Lost Chapters (2005) and precisely the Steam version of the executable.

  (If you own the disk version of the game, I'm sure that with a bit of searching you can find the Steam version of Fable.exe.)

  The archive includes:

  • []FSE folder - here you will store your scripts.[/]

      MyFirstQuestfolder - a test quest I left by default so you can be familiarised with the interface.

  Master folder - this is the "master quest" in which the global game states will be saved.

  Quests.lua - here you will register you quests and entities.

  • []FableScriptExtender.dll - this is the main file. The scripting engine.[/]

    Tutorials not yet available. Will update in the future. What I can tell you right now is that you need some prior experience in Lua Scripting and Fable modding.
