📋 About This Mod
Tool for snooping through Elex 2 dialogs. Check out the tutorials (html in the zip) whether it might be useful for you. (The flowchart, see last picture, is WIP. Some GameEvents must be negated.) Flowchart for 94 (out of 9000+) infos atm.
Elex 2 quest and info dialogue checker (tool, not a mod)
I wouldn't recommend to snoop through dialogue details if you didn't play Elex 2 once at least!
You have been warned. Resolutions of Quests and story riddles may be revealed. The analytic
approach can kill the mystery of the story, if any.
---------------------------
Think of the spoken story as a dialogue tree with a thousand branches (30k assumed dialog lines)
which you can walk through with this tool.
Not all associated lines are visible when meeting an NPC, because most of them will be locked out as long as certain
GameEvent variables (GEv) aren't set. (This means the dialog tree is not static, it grows with your game progress.)
Another tool, the ELEX2 savegame modifier, has an option to create a list of GEvs from a savegame,
representing the current overall state of the dialogue tree (the branches/lines which are already visible).
(There's 2 example lists, GEv_list_SaveData_0067.txt and .. 0097.txt, just in case you don't want to
trick around with the E2SavegameModifier.)
Now here my question to AI: "elex 2 how can I find Sid?"
Answer: "In ELEX 2, you can find the Outlaw named Sid during the "Tilas' Apprentice" quest. He is located in the wilderness, specifically near the quest marker provided after speaking with Tilas at the Fort. Sid is hunting for the apprentice, Marwin, and can be found waiting for him in hiding to initiate a confrontation."
Well, if this solution makes you happy you're definitely not part of the aimed audience of QIC, the "Quest and info checker".
Elex 2 QIC is aimed at story explorers, such as almanach writers. But even those might be deterred by the somewhat confusing technical concept. (So yeah, one possible simple solution could be to use an editor with a "search in folders" feature to snoop through the .info files in the DATA_QI folder.)
Basically you can get all information the tool provides using such editor (provided you've some bascic knowledge about Elex blocks, GameEvents and their dependencies).
I'd suggest starting with tutorial one, then tutorial two. (As you can see the 2nd tutorial has a stopper because I felt the overwhelming confusion that this topic could cause.)
At the end of the day I realized that it's a waste of time to track down to the very start of a quest with E2 QIC.
Instead I tried a simpler approach where the IA_list log file will give some overview about the dependencies.
(Maybe I continue the tutorial after having finished my QI checker for Risen 3.)
Short introduction to E2QI-Checker
First let's gather the points for some general strategy (StrategyPoint, SP). Let's assume we talk to an NPC to start a quest.
Tilas, for example, quest WhereIsSid?
(Please have a look at the picture with points 1 to 5 in the QIC tutorial, part one. Check for "List of all E2 quests".)
After having loaded a GEv_list_... file into E2QI-Checker choose Tilas_WhereIs_Sid from the quests drop down combobox in the main window. The associated infos will be sent to be listbox below then.) <<<
The info_GEvs_tmp.txt which pops up in notepad can be pushed aside atm. It just shows the GameEvents (after PK/PNK)
not set in the savegame the GEv_list_...txt had been created from. So the dialogues from infos depending on those GEvs
will not show up in game (IKENI7_02401_Tilas for example).
Now for the first StrategyPoint (check the pop checkbox and click onto the activator info): that info requires the GEv Tilas_Choice11a to be set (see line CPK=PlayerKnows Tilas_Choice11a).
That GEv is not set in the mentioned savegame and we want to know which NPCs to talk to (to set it).
SP1: search for a GEv, i.e. a setter info that sets it.
Enter Tilas_Choice11a into the edit box below the 'search' button.
Press the button. In the left handed -Setter infos- window you find IKENI7_02408_Tilas and IKENI7_02409_Tilas.
Clicking on those infos (with 'pop' checked) you'll see that they have a line SetGameEvent Tilas_Choice11a. And both infos have a parent info, Parent=IKENI7_02403.
SP2: take care of parent infos, if any.
That's important, because no info can be active as long as its parent isn't.
Now you can read the hints below the pictures in the tutorial, part 1.
SP3: get an overview of the setter/getter dependencies. The lefthanded - Setter infos - window gives an overview for the
selected quest.
SP4: tracking of NPCs and their dialogues. (Find your best method.)
Don't be frustrated if a certain NPC doesn't come
