We have created a desktop tool for Windows designed to simplify the search for and connection to Steam game lobbies. Written in C++ using the Windows API, the program is lightweight and requires no installation. Its primary purpose is to automate the process of searching, reading data, and joining multiplayer matches, all from an intuitive user interface.

Key Features

User Interface (GUI)

The interface is composed of a user window with several key controls:

• []Text Field (AppID): Here, the user can enter the AppID of any Steam game. By default, it is configured with the AppID 480 for Spacewar!, a common demo game used to test multiplayer functionalities. By changing this value, the program will search for lobbies for the desired game.

  []"Update" Button: This button initiates the search process. First, it saves the entered AppID into a file named steam_appid.txt for use by the external program (SteamSearchlobby.exe). Then, it executes that program, which is responsible for scanning Steam lobbies and saving the results to a text file named out.txt.

  []"Join" Button: Once the list of lobbies has been loaded into the table, selecting a row and clicking this button prompts the program to take the lobby's invitation link and use it to initiate a direct connection via Steam, allowing you to join the match.

  []Lobbies Table (ListView): This is the central part of the interface. It displays the found lobbies in a clear and organized format, with the following columns:

  []Lobby ID: The unique identifier for each lobby.

  []Players: Shows the number of players in the lobby, e.g., "2/6." If the information is missing, it displays "None."

  []Custom Data: A flexible column that consolidates all additional lobby information (such as game versions or invitation parameters). Multi-line data is combined and separated by a semicolon. If there is no data, it displays "None."

  []Link: This column is hidden from the user and is only used internally for the lobby joining functionality.

  Automation and Logic

  The tool uses process automation to interact with external files and programs:

  • []File Generation: Before the search, the program creates a steam_appid.txt file with the specified game ID.

    []Reading and Processing: After the search, the application reads the out.txt file and processes it. It handles parsing each line, extracting the relevant information, and ensuring that empty fields display "None" in the interface.

  • Thread Management: The program uses a timer to wait for the external search process to finish before loading the information into the table, ensuring that the displayed data is complete and correct.
