📋 About This Mod
Simple mod, applies Deflecting Hardtear effect whenever Dryleaf Arts or Dane's Footwork is equipped even if in the offhand. How to and merging info in description!
DRYLEAF DEFLECT
This is a simple mod, kind of a proof of concept and I wanted to upload it as a small modding resource or point of reference as much as it is a mod by itself.
Applies the Deflecting Hardtear buff with no buff sound/visual effect (aside from the icon under your bars) while Dryleaf Arts or Dane's Footwork is equipped. It will last as long as the weapon is equipped, and be removed when you unequip it or switch that hand to another weapon.
The buff applies similarly to how something like a sacred seal's spell school bonus is applied. As such, you can put the weapon in your offhand and two hand the weapon in the other, and be able to deflect with that weapon instead. If you use the mod this way I recommend putting a utility ash of war like Golden Vow on your offhanded Dryleaf Arts/Dane's Footwork! It would also allow deflecting with a shield if you had the modded weapon in your right and a shield in your left hand.
You can easily apply this to other weapons or equipment like armor or talismans as well using Smithbox. Details in the Merging Info & It Works section below.
VERSION 1. 1
In the previous version the effect ended upon resting at a grace. This has been corrected in v1. 1. Its literally just a checkbox in Smithbox I foolishly forgot about. Info below in regulation.bin changes as well.
VERSION 1. 17
Updated for Elden Ring patch 1. 17.
INSTALLATION
Use Mod Engine 2 or 3. Download the mod's . 7z file, and extract the contents. If using Mod Engine 3, simply drag the "Dryleaf Deflect" folder into the drag and drop section of the application. If using Mod Engine 2, move that folder to ME2's "mod" folder.
MERGING INFO & HOW IT WORKS
This mod consists of two parts, the regulation.bin and the modified c0000.hks script located in Dryleaf Deflect\action\script
The vanilla Deflecting Hardear effect consists of several different SpEffects, but the main one is 102000. This is the one referenced by the Deflecting Hardtear itself and governs the buff duration (and the visual effect.) The other SpEffects related to the buff are called in the hks script if the 102000 buff effect is active.
regulation.bin changes
SpEffectParam 102000 is duplicated via Smithbox to 102023.
In this new SpEffect, effectEndurance is set to -1 (infinite duration) and the vfxId of 23107000 is changed to -1 (removes the persistent buff visual and sound effect on the character.)
VERSION 1. 1 In the SpEffect in Smithbox, uncheck eraseOnBonfireRecover to prevent the effect from ending upon resting at a site of grace.
In EquipParamWeapon, the given weapon has one of its residentSpEffectId values changed from -1 to 102023. This causes the weapon to apply the new buff while equipped. In the case of weapons that can have different affinities applied like these, this change should be made to every version in EquipParamWeapon(ie, Flame Art Dryleaf Arts, Heavy Dryleaf Arts, etc)
You should also be able to do this with other equipment that have residentSpEffectId entries, like armor and talismans.
Extra Smithbox tip: in any search bar you can type "modified" and Smithbox will quickly show you the entries in that section that differ from a vanilla regulation.bin
c0000.hks changes
There are 5 blocks of code that reference 102000 in IF statements. Each of these is copied and pasted directly under the original, with 102000 replaced with 102023. This ensures the rest of the Deflecting Hardtear buff effects apply while the new 102023 buff is active in the same way. (You could also alter the original statements to work with 102023 as well as 102000, but just duplicating them like this works as well and is extremely simple to do.)
These blocks are commented in this mod's hks file and can be easily searched with "Dalven's Dryleaf Deflect" If you wish to view or modify .hks files yourself, open it in an editor like Notepad++ (NOT regular Notepad!) and if you use Notepad++, I recommend going to Language->L at the top and selecting Lua.
