📋 About This Mod
The camera pulls back for large enemies, scaled to their actual size, and changes nothing for normal ones. Automatic, silent, and it touches no gameplay values.
Big enemies break the camera. This mod fixes that.
Elden Ring gives nearly every enemy the same camera distance, no matter how large it is.
What goes wrong
You can only ever see a piece of it. Past a certain size, the screen stops showing you a creature and starts showing you a fragment of one — a leg, a torso, a wall of fur. You cannot read a windup you cannot see.
Lock-on turns against you. The bigger the enemy, the worse it gets: the camera locks onto a body part instead of a fight, swings wildly as that part moves, and leaves you fighting the controls instead of the boss. On large enemies, many players end up avoiding lock-on entirely — which is its own kind of broken.
The camera ends up inside things. Sitting that close to something enormous, one sudden movement is enough to bury the view in a wall, a pillar, or the enemy itself.
What Better Camera does
It reads how large an enemy actually is and gives the camera room to match — a little for a mid-sized creature, a lot for something enormous, and nothing at all for ordinary enemies.
The whole creature stays in frame, so its attacks are readable. Lock-on stays usable, because the camera is far enough back to hold the whole fight instead of one thrashing limb. And with that extra distance, the camera has room to move — so it ends up inside walls and enemies far less often than it did.
It engages as you approach, holds perfectly steady through the fight, and lets go once you leave. Nothing moves while you are actually fighting.
Features
-
[]Four size tiers, scaled to how large each enemy actually is[/]
[]Works identically whether you are locked on or not[/]
[]Handles enemies that burrow, take flight, leap overhead, or change form mid-fight[/]
[]Ignores friendly NPCs — the camera stays put around the ones you are not fighting[/]
[]Controller and mouse & keyboard alike; the mod never reads your input[/]
[]No performance cost — it runs on its own thread and never touches the game's render loop[/]
[]No UI, no overlay, no on-screen clutter[/]
[]No stat, damage, balance or enemy placement changes of any kind[/]
[]No regulation.bin — compatible with practically everything except other camera-distance mods[/]
[]Restores the game's own values when unloaded; leaves nothing behind[/]
[]Works out of the box; an optional .ini is there if you want to tune it[/]
Installation
Requires Mod Engine 2 or Elden Mod Loader and offline mod in game settings/ EAC-disabled setup, like any DLL mod.
Drop the folder in, add "Better Camera/bettercamera.dll" to external_dlls in your config, and launch. That's it.
Thank you for trying it.
If it made a fight readable that wasn't before, an endorsement genuinely helps — it is the only way a small mod gets found.
I am also taking custom mod requests via DM. If there is something you have wanted for a while and nobody has built it, ask.
