Solstice

Solstice As the sun nears its zenith on the longest day of the year, Solstice celebrations are deep underway in the Oaken Grove. Folk from many of the nearby villages gather to eat, drink, dance, be merry and enjoy the festivities. Local craftsmen have set up tents to sell wares and capitalise on the few hundred people who gather here for the high-summer week. Lighting the grove, bonfires are tended constantly, shedding warmth and light on the revellers. A quiet shrine in one corner is made up to the Goddess of the Forest, and people take their turn to leave offerings and bathe in her presence. A maze of hay is made up for children, but it hold a darker secret. Within the grand central oak (delete as necessary) a small circle of Forest Druids draw on the power of the festival to push back ever encroaching Fey spirits. At this time of year, the barrier between these two worlds wears thin, and mischevious and unscrupulous creatures of the Feywild attempt to breach this ancient magical site. The Druids push back, holding a mighty festival that encourages people to celebrate life and nature. The Circle of the Oak long held this grove, and are prepared to make the cruelest sacrifice to satiate the spirits if they do come through, and convince them to leave. The maze is a a bewitched trap, forged iron has been enchanted to prevent the passage of Sylvan kind, though the children those Fey find in the maze are forfeit.
