Ranger Mountain Tower and Trading Post

Thanks to sac for providing the base terrain. It was unreasonably inspirational. I took the tower as high as it could go. The Ranger Mountain Lookout Tower is part of a network of ranger towers that stand sentinal against northern incursions into the land, as well as providing forwarning to the sparse residents, shepherds, and traders of the area against fires and flash floods. Between 8-12 rangers at various stages of training typically occupy the tower with commanders and nobles residing within the upper level. The upper level and middle floors are accessed by ladder or crane. Daily patrols, tower and trail maintenance, skills and physical training, and reports via carrier pigeon sent to command, are common activities. Camp followers occupy the trading outpost section, as well as provide blacksmithing, laundry, and bakery services in exchange for coin, or for safe passage within the narrow and forbidding mountain passes beyond the domain of the rangers. Those awaiting transport to the nearest magistrate for criminal wrongdoing are temporarily held within a cage located in the support tower. At nighttime the cage is held aloft by the crane. The prospect of the line being cut and the occupant of the cage plummeting to their death is enough to keep the even the most unruly in line.
