Compatibility Notice
This mod now includes separate HD/Remaster and Non-HD/Original versions.
The original/non-HD release of Dragon Ball Z Kakarot uses an older Unreal Engine pak format. Earlier versions of this mod were packed using newer UnrealPak builds, which caused the “Trailing magic number” startup crash on non-HD installations.
The new Non-HD files were rebuilt using an older UnrealPak version for compatibility with the original release of the game.
Please download only the version that matches your game:
• HD/Remaster users → use HD files
• Original/non-HD users → use Non-HD files
Do not install both versions at the same time.
Description
This mod replaces in-engine cutscene audio in Dragon Ball Z Kakarot with Faulconer-style tracks across multiple story moments. It is a combined pack of several cutscene edits, including SSJ2 Gohan (Day of Fate), Father-Son Kamehameha, SSJ3 transformation, as well as Trunks and Bardock DLC scenes.
Kakarot uses Unreal Engine 4, where assets are stored in
.pakarchives. Cutscenes are stored as
.usmfiles under
Content/Movies/, and are labeled using internal codes rather than names. For example:
-
[]C03_100_S010_mov.usm→ SSJ2 Gohan (Day of Fate) [/]
[]C03_100_S040_mov.usm→ Father-Son Kamehameha [/]
[]C04_040_S110_mov.usm→ SSJ3 Transformation [/]
.usmfiles into audio streams using VGMToolbox, analyzing them in foobar2000 with the vgmstream plugin, and preparing replacement audio. Files were repacked using UnrealPak with proper mount paths so the engine overrides originals. A Python script was used to automate bulk packing.
Additional included scenes:
-
[]Bardock DLC:
C08_010_S010,
C08_020_S065,
C08_030_S070(Bardock Falls) [/
][]Buu Saga:
C04_080_S020(Old Buu Emerges),
C04_080_S040(Porunga Summon),
C04_080_S080(Kid Buu vs Spirit Bomb) [/]
[]Trunks DLC:
C07_010_S070,
C07_010_S100,
C07_010_S110,
C07_010_S130,
C07_020_S150,
C07_030_S140

[]Updated Vegeta Final Atonement (
C04_040_S030) with additional tracks [/]
[]Saiyan Saga:

How Overrides Work (UE4 Behavior)
.pakfile in this mod contains files structured like:
Content/Movies/<scene>.usm
The filename inside the pak must match the game’s original path exactly. Unreal Engine 4 uses this internal path to determine what gets replaced, not the name of the
.pakfile itself.
Kakarot loads mods from:
AT/Content/Paks/~mods/
Files in the
~modsfolder are given priority over the base game archives. If a
.pakin this folder contains a file with the same path as one in the original game, it overrides it.
For example, if a mod contains:
Content/Movies/C03_100_S010_mov.usm
it will replace the cutscene audio when the game loads.
