📋 About This Mod
The chosen folder/files overwrite the modifiers affecting health, damage etc, changing Easy difficulty into your chosen difficulty, but with friendly fire removed. Party members are still affected by freezing, knockdowns etc. They don't seem to be affected by lingering effects like being set on fire, though the animations will still play. NPC allies are still affected by all types of friendly fire.
Place the folder/files corresponding to the difficulty that you want to play in:
Documents > Bioware > Dragon Age > packages > core > override
Only one set of the files (Normal, Hard or Nightmare) can be used at any one time.
In game, change the difficulty to Easy.
For example, if you copy the HARD version to the override folder, this is what you'll get for each difficulty selected in the game:
In-game displays EASY difficulty: Play HARD difficulty without friendly fire In-game displays NORMAL difficulty: Play NORMAL difficulty with friendly fire In-game displays HARD difficulty: Play HARD difficulty with friendly fire In-game displays NIGHTMARE difficulty: Play NIGHTMARE difficulty with friendly fire
These files are modified from v1. 04 of Dragon Age Origins.
Works without any issues in the Ultimate edition (v1. 05).
V1. 1 Additional files added, containing more multipliers.
v1. 0 Quick tests on each difficulty, both in Origins and Awakening, indicate the files work properly.
This mod may conflict with any others that affect difficulty.

✨ Key Features
📊 Pros & Cons
✅ Pros
- Community-approved with 944 endorsements and nearly 20k downloads
- Removes the frustration of accidentally killing your own party with AoE spells
- Preserves crowd control effects so combat still has tactical depth
⚠️ Cons
- Last updated in 2012 – may not be compatible with all versions or DLC
- Only affects party members, not NPC allies, so friendly fire can still hurt quest NPCs
For Dragon Age: Origins players who want to use AoE spells without worrying about damaging their party. Also for those who find friendly fire more annoying than challenging. Skip if you want a pure difficulty overhaul – this mod only tweaks friendly fire and difficulty labels.
💡 Beginner Tips
- Since the mod changes difficulty settings, make sure you select the intended difficulty when starting a new game or loading a save.
- If you're using mod managers like DAO Modmanager, place the file in the 'override' folder to ensure it loads correctly.
- Test with a quick battle to confirm friendly fire is off for your party before relying on it in tough fights.
