📋 About This Mod
Playing your HoF in Inquisition? Headcanoning your Inquisitor as a Warden but the regular Warden armor doesn't seem interesting enough? Just think the Griffon armors look cool? This mod changes the appearance of the Mercenary Coat starting armor to one of the Griffon armors added by the Trespasser DLC, depending on class, and additionally changes the color scheme to Grey Warden colors. Mages get Griffon Robes, rogues get Griffon Mail, and warriors get Griffon Plate. The stats of the Mercenary Coat are not altered.
Frosty-exclusive for now, but I might convert it to daimod later. I'm also open to requests for other color schemes, just tell me the materials you want.
Note
Your character will appear in the heavy variant of the armor in the character creator, and in any scenes where your character appears in their starting armor (e.g., during Champions of the Just). There's nothing I can do about this, sorry. As long as the right armor variant appears when your character is getting off the ground before customization, this mod is working correctly.
Compatibility
This mod is not compatible with any other mod that alters the starting armor, such as Invisible Starting Armor or Immersive Starting Armors. Mods that alter the textures of the Mercenary Coat shouldn't have any compatibility errors, but they won't affect your starting armor at all. Mods that alter the textures of any of the Griffon armors should be fully compatible.
The Trespasser DLC is REQUIRED for this mod to work. Do not attempt to use it without having Trespasser installed!
Griffon Starting Armors is a small cosmetic mod for Dragon Age: Inquisition that swaps the Mercenary Coat starting armor model with a Trespasser Griffon armor variant in Grey Warden colors. With 37 endorsements and last updated in April 2020, it's a niche choice for players wanting a lore-friendly visual tweak early in the game.
✨ Key Features
📊 Pros & Cons
✅ Pros
- Gives your Inquisitor a fresh look right from the start, swapping the default coat for a Griffon armor in Grey Warden colors.
- Lightweight and focused—does exactly what it says without touching other armor pieces.
- Small but dedicated following (37 endorsements) suggests it works as intended for those who want it.
⚠️ Cons
- Only affects the starting Mercenary Coat—once you change armor, the mod's effect is gone.
- No screenshots or detailed instructions in the description, so you're flying blind on the exact look.
- Last updated in 2020—may not be compatible with the latest game patches or mod setups.
For Dragon Age: Inquisition players who want a subtle, lore-friendly visual upgrade to the starting armor without overhauling the whole game. If you're a Grey Warden fan or just tired of the default coat, this is a quick fix. Skip if you want more substantial armor changes or play with heavy mod lists where compatibility might be an issue.
💡 Beginner Tips
- Make sure you have the Trespasser DLC installed, as the Griffon armor model comes from it.
- If you're using Frosty Mod Manager, place the mod in the correct folder and apply it before launching the game.
- This mod only affects the very first armor you get—if you want to see it, check your character right after the prologue.
