📋 About This Mod
Makes AI-controlled party members use abilities sooner by removing the hidden post-ability pacing delay that forces filler basic attacks.
# Companion Combat Unleashed
Companion Combat Unleashed changes the shared combat pacing used by AI-controlled party members. Companions can evaluate another legal ability as soon as their current action finishes instead of being pushed into filler basic attacks by the party AI's hidden post-ability cooldown.
The result is a more active party that uses its available abilities more consistently. Preferred abilities become more meaningful, warriors move through their combat options more readily, rogues spend less time relying on basic attacks, and mages cast more often when they have a valid target and enough mana.
## What It Changes
The mod bypasses the Shared Cooldown 2 setter in the three common party execution wrappers:
- Melee ability execution.
- Ranged ability execution.
- Self-cast ability execution.
These shared assets govern most standard warrior, rogue, and mage ability behaviors used by AI-controlled party members.
## What Remains Vanilla
- Individual ability cooldowns.
- Mana and stamina costs.
- Resource-reserve settings.
- Target selection, range, and line-of-sight requirements.
- Ability animations and current-action safety.
- Companion movement and pathfinding.
- Defensive reaction pacing for block, parry, and dodge.
- Basic attacks when no ability is currently legal.
- Enemy and creature AI.
- Damage, guard, barriers, status effects, and ability upgrades.
- The native game executable and Behavior Decision System runner.
This is an AI pacing adjustment, not a cooldown-removal or unlimited-resource cheat.
## Expected Behavior
Companions still finish their current animation before choosing another action. They will not cancel an attack halfway through its animation merely because an ability becomes available.
When several abilities are legal, DAI's normal utility scoring still chooses between them. Preferred remains a strong priority bonus rather than an absolute command. When no ability is legal, companions continue using normal basic attacks.
Because companions can move between abilities more readily, they may consume mana or stamina faster than they do in the unmodified game. The existing resource-reserve setting can still be used to control this.
