Devil May Cry 4 Special Edition Resolution and Crash Fix

Description

Fixes start-up crashes on high-res/modern displays. Modified executables limited to specific resolutions (1080p, 1440p, 4K) for stability. Also includes hex-edits to disable Motion Blur, Depth of Field, and God Rays (Light Shafts) for better visual clarity and performance. This was necessary for the game to run on modern monitors and especially TV's. If you're struggling to get the game to start at all and your display fall under any of the resolutions listed above, this may very-well fix your problem. I have a 2-monitor desk setup and also a high refresh rate TV I use to play controller games and this game would not work on either without a Hex edit to manually force my resolution. While I was forcing the resolution, I decided to turn of post-processing effects to give a cleaner-modern look.

MAKE SURE YOU HAVE DOWNLOADED THE CORRECT VERSION FOR YOUR MONITORS RESOLUTION OR ELSE YOU'LL RUN INTO ISSUES

What this does:

This is a small patch to fix start-up crashes on modern high-refresh displays and hard-limit the game to a specified resolution for stability.

Installation:

Locate your game folder:

Steam: Right-click Devil May Cry 4 Special Edition in your Library > Manage > Browse local files.

(If you installed elsewhere, just open that folder).

Backup: Copy your current DevilMayCry4SpecialEdition.exe and config.ini to a safe backup folder before overwriting.

Install: Move the included DevilMayCry4SpecialEdition.exe into the game folder, overwriting the original.

Unblock: Right-click the new .exe, go to Properties, and if a "Security" notice appears at the bottom, click Unblock and then Apply.

Config: Open %localappdata%\CAPCOM\DEVILMAYCRY4SPECIALEDITION\ and replace the existing config with the included one. Right-click it, click properties and then unblock it so the game detects it.

Recommended Setup:

The config is set to FullScreen=OFF by default for stability. If you want to use fullscreen you can enable it in game or edit the config. I would recommend a program called borderless gaming for a more seamless experience, especially if you have multiple monitors or you need to tab it out frequently, its mimics a windowed borderless experience.

framerate can also be changed in-game or using the config file, the default is 60 for stability.
