Overview

Multi-Unit Cruise Control is a cruise-control and locomotive-assist mod for Derail Valley. It can help control supported diesel and steam locomotives, manage multiple bound locomotives together, protect diesel gauges, assist with braking, handle DM3 shifting, and optionally follow detected speed limits.

This is a major rewrite and expansion of the original Steam Cruise Control beta.

This mod is not meant to be a perfect autopilot. You still need to pay attention, especially on steep grades, heavy trains, complex track layouts, and around junctions.

Diesel Support

The mod supports diesel cruise behavior and attempts to protect important locomotive limits such as amps, oil temperature, and other model-specific gauges where available.

Different locomotives expose their controls and gauges differently, so behavior can vary between vanilla and modded locomotives.

Supported diesel behavior includes:

• Smooth throttle control near target speed

• Gauge-aware throttle limiting

• Automatic braking assistance

• Coasting near target speed instead of constant throttle chatter

• DM3 shifting support

Steam Support

Steam support is still included and has been expanded beyond the old Steam Cruise Control beta.

The mod attempts to control steam locomotives using available controls such as regulator, cutoff/reverser behavior, braking, and pressure-aware logic.

Some modded steam locomotives work better than others. Steam locomotives with custom controls, unusual simulation behavior, missing gauges, or heavy particle systems may behave differently.

The mod can control multiple bound locomotives together.
