📋 About This Mod
A minimalistic and vanilla-friendly rebalance of Demon's Souls.
The goal of this mod is to tweak certain aspects of Demon's Souls that, in my opinion, are not very well thought out. This is not a massive overhaul mod, but rather a small collection of changes that simply aim to improve the original Demon's Souls experience.
List of Changes
Item Drops
-
[]Primeval Demons now always drop a Colorless Demon Soul.
In the vanilla game, there is a small chance (~10%) that they will not drop anything. I'm pretty sure it is a bug and not the intended behavior, as it makes no sense from a game design perspective. Colorless Demon Souls are already a very limited resource (Bluepoint Remake also fixed this issue).[
]Pure Bladestone drop rate has been increased from ~0. 5% to ~10% and from ~2% to ~15% in Pure Black World Tendency. This item is infamously very hard to acquire, forcing Dexterity build users into a painful grind if they wish to upgrade their weapon to a maximum level. The drop rate was adjusted so it can be earned in a reasonable time.
Item Weight
-
[]Reduced the weight of non-grass consumables to 0.
To preserve the weight management aspect, I kept the weight of the grass items as is. It's already very easy to carry 99 grass with you all the time. Regular consumables, however, can bloat your inventory really quickly, since enemies that drop them are very common. You will still need to drop other items at Stockpile Thomas to manage your item burden, but this change should make it less of an annoyance.
-
[]Removed stamina regeneration penalty for wearing armor.
In case you were not aware, yes, this is a mechanic that exists in Demon's Souls. It does not appear in Souls games post Dark Souls 2, and for a good reason, I think. Armor in general does not really do much to improve your survivability; however, stamina management is a very important part of the gameplay. So, wearing heavy armor is just a disadvantage with not much benefit; for that reason, I decided to remove that mechanic.
-
[]Increased the damage of selected Unique and Boss weapons.
Underpowered Unique and Boss weapons have been buffed to be on par with regular infusable weapons.
If you are into build crafting, you might have noticed that most unique and boss weapons are plainly not great. They usually possess various effects unique to them, but the tradeoff is that their damage is simply pitiful. Most have low base damage values that remain the same even if you upgrade them. Even if they have good attribute scaling, low base damage still prevents them from reaching a viable attack rating. As a result, their effectiveness drops off dramatically as you continue to level up, while regular infusable weapons just keep getting stronger.
This mod adjusts the stats of all unique and boss weapons that I found to be lacking (which is almost all of them). The goal was to make them viable alternatives to normal infusable weapons. This was done by increasing the base damage and/or adjusting the attribute scaling of those weapons. Some weapons that did not have any scaling before will now have it. In general, I tried to stick as close as possible to vanilla concepts when adjusting the parameters.
This mod only improves the damage of the weapons, movesets and special effects all remain unchanged. Power-wise, they should now be close to infusable weapons of the same category.
You can see a full list of changes in this document. Note that it uses true scaling values instead of simplified letters (E-S) that you see in the game. Also, I would not judge the weapons by raw numbers alone. Souls games have a pretty complicated damage formula.
