Customizable Keyboard and Mouse Icons for Demon's Souls

Overview

- Custom-built tool to easily set up Keyboard & Mouse in-game UI icons/prompts for Demon's Souls.

- No modding knowledge required, the tool handles everything automatically.

- Full support for every single Keyboard & Mouse button.

- Optionally, it can change the Lock-On Reticle to a more modern one.

- For the best Keyboard + Mouse experience, I recommend using MKB2Controller by N3R4i.

How to Use

0. Download and install the Gray Outline Removal mod (required).

1. Download the mod.

2. Open the extracted folder, run "DeS KBM Prompt Setup.bat".

3. Choose whether you are using the USA (1) or the Europe (2) version of the game - press ENTER.

4. Choose whether you want to use Vanilla (1) or the Modern (2) Lock-On Reticle - press ENTER.

5. Now for every single control the program asks for, set its desired code (table will be on the screen) - press ENTER for each to move on to the next.

6. When the program finishes, it will create a folder called "PS3_GAME"

7. Merge this folder with your own PS3_GAME folder from within your RPCS3 setup + overwrite existing files.

8. Done - enter the game and see all your controls reflected in-game.

Notes

- To maximize Keyboard + Mouse controls (and actually have a smooth mouse/camera experience)

- Movement Direction and Menu Direction keys only support the Number/Letter/Arrow/Punctuation keys (CODES: 0-35, 77-91), as seen above - the way the game was made limits how visible other button prompts could ever be as they can only be about 10x10 pixels large. This is no big issue as I reckon nobody is walking around holding F12.

- If you did not back up your original game files, no worries, I provide a backup in this folder: "PROGRAM\BACKUP".

- If you accidentally close the program before finishing, no worries, just start again and it will automatically clean up any issues.

- There are separate prompt possibilities for ALT/CTRL/SHIFT/WIN - they all have Left/Right/Generic forms. Choose whichever you like.

- The modern Lock-On Reticle is reminiscent of Dark Souls 3 / Bloodborne / Elden Ring (screenshot below).

Alternate Keybinds (Optional)

- I recommend setting Alternate Keybinds in RPCS3 / MKB2 (whichever you choose) to:

Menu Up (Change Spell)

Menu Down (Switch Item)

Menu Right (Switch Main Weapon)

Menu Left (Switch Off-Hand Weapon)

- To do this in RPCS3, press SHIFT+Click on a keybind in the controller setup menu. This will allow you to set an additional key to an already defined hotkey.

- To do this in MKB2, just go to the KEYBINDS menu within the program and set up multiple hotkeys as you see fit for each control.

- This ensures that you can comfortably use your in-game controls while also having the prompts be something like the Arrow Keys. For example, I have 1, 2, 3, 4 set as those while also having the arrows, in the following way:

3 / Up Arrow --- Menu Up (Change Spell)

4 / Down Arrow --- Menu Down (Switch Item)

1 / Right Arrow --- Menu Right (Switch Main Weapon)

2 / Left Arrow --- Menu Left (Switch Off-Hand Weapon)

Compatibility

- Incompatible with mods modifying the following files: dsfont24.tpf, dsfont24.tpf.dcx, menu.tpf, menu.tpf.dcx.

- In spite of this, after creating these files with my mod, you can unpack them and merge them with other mods at your own leisure.
