AFRICOM ORBAT - Africa Area of Operations (2009)

AFRICOM ORBAT – Africa Area of Operations (2009) CMO VERSION NOTE: Built with Beta Sep 15 2025 Multinational and Parallel Maritime Security Environment This ORBAT establishes a baseline depiction of U. S. and supporting forces assigned to or supporting AFRICOM operations in 2009. It captures the disposition and roles of key air, naval, ISR, and special operations assets operating from forward locations in Africa and from supporting bases in Europe. The 2009 maritime security architecture in the Gulf of Aden and western Indian Ocean featured simultaneous coalition and independent naval deployments. While counter-piracy was a shared objective, command structures remained separate. Alongside NATO and EU task groups, several major powers — including China, Japan, India, and Russia — conducted independent deployments coordinated for deconfliction but operating outside unified command authorities. The region functioned as a parallel-coalition environment with overlapping but not fully integrated command structures.
