Coalition vs. Iraq Date/Time: 19 January, 1991 / 00:00:00 Zulu Location: Middle East Duration: 36 HoursPlayable Sides: Coalition On 2 August 1990, the world watched in dismay as Iraq's elite armoured divisions invaded and conquered Kuwait, Jordan, Israel and Egypt's Sina Peninsula in five days. Through years of infiltration of Saddam's regime, a group of fundamentalists eventually took control and overthrew Saddam's rule, establishing the Sultanate of Iraq's empire. And according to intelligence, the sultan of this empire wanted to establish an Islamic empire from the Xindukush Mountains to Morocco. The US administration, balancing between its long-standing allies Israel and Kuwait, and its desire to continue using secular Iraq as a bulwark against Iran (as it had done throughout the 1980s). During the spring and summer of 1990, Iraq’s military preparations were closely observed by western intelligence but were interpreted as a show of force designed to intimidate Kuwait and third-party negotiators rather than as the prelude to action. But a blitzkrieg waged by the Iraqi empire shattered the peace in the Middle East, and not only the Jews, but other conquered Islamic populations fell to their knees under the tyrannical rule of imperial gas bomb massacres. To counter such a threat, coalition‘s multiple rapid-reaction forces and schemes were put in place. Across from them, just across the border stood the best Iraqi troops, confident and ready to advance. If that force crosses the border, will that thin red line still hold?
