To Kill A Mockingbird, 1979

--------------------------------------------------------------------To Kill A MockingbirdSoviet PVO vs. SR-71--------------------------------------------------------------------v0. 3, by George Ross This mission pits the Soviet air defenses on the Kola Peninsula against the legendary SR-71 - and against the equally-legendary Soviet command chain bureaucracy! To win this scenario, you must not only shoot down the dreaded Blackbird, but also do so only after receiving Moscow's permission. Better yet, you will not know where and when exactly the secretive plane is coming - this mission is designed to be dynamic and will play differently each time. Sometimes you will have a good shot, while other times the Habu will elude you entirely. Good luck, comrade! Soviet Forces (player):MiG-25, Su-15, and Yak-28P interceptors of the 10th PVO Army, supported by ground and air EW radars, and SA-5 SAM sites. US (opposition):Single SR-71A with tanker support; with possible other ELINT/Maritime Patrol aircraft operating over Barents Sea. The idea for this mission is based on the recollections of my father, who served as a radio operator in the Soviet army on the Kola Peninsula in 1978-79 - and saw the SR-71 come in on radar. (Important note: please enable popups for 'Special Messages' in this mission, as these provide crucial information to playing this scenario.) (Important note #2: make sure to run the scenario for at least 1 second before issuing any orders or examining your OOB. An event that randomizes the layout of your forces needs to fire before you do that - you'll get a message about it as soon as it does.)
