The Fiery October: Reprisal

The Fiery October This series of scenarios is set on the presumption that the Cuban Missile Crisis turned hot following the shootdown of a U-2 over Cuba on 27 October, 1962. It escalated from a tense non-hostile showdown between the US and Soviet Union to a major global conflict within 48 hours. The primary diversion from real events is the decision by President Kennedy to launch reprisal airstrikes against SAM sites in Cuba in retalliation for the U-2 shootdown. From there, the situation escalates. Each scenario in the series presents a new phase of the conflict and presents the player with a detailed look at the potential power and limitations of the the USAF in the early 60s. Scenario Background In the wake of the U-2 shootdown on Saturday, October 27, 1962, the Cuban Missile Crisis took a dangerous turn. A plan was in place to launch reprisal strikes against any SAM site in Cuba that attacks a US reconnaissance aircraft. President Kennedy and his advisers debated whether or not to approve the strikes and in the end decided against it. As the US (Blue) player you will be transmitted orders for reconnaissance and support missions, as well as the reprisal strikes, and attached missions.
