Protecting Peacekeepers on Samar, 2024

This scenario assumes the civil unrest that has plagued the Philippines becomes significantly worse by the early 2020s. At the time this scenario takes place, several rebel groups are active in the archipelago, some engaged in guerilla activities against government forces, some ideologically-motivated terror groups, and others little more than well-armed gangs of bandits. The Philippines has requested assistance both from its allies and the United Nations. One current operation is the deployment of U. N. peacekeepers and aid workers on the island of Samar, which has become the stronghold of one of the guerilla groups. The group, known as the Revolutionary Army of the Philippines, is considered particularly dangerous because its leaders include former military officers. Recently, the rebels were successful in stealing a few older tanks and artillery pieces from the Philippine government. U. N. forces on the island are engaged in peacekeeping and humanitarian operations. The United States has been charged with assisitng the Philippines in providing security for the peacekeepers. ------------------------------------ At the time this scenario was written, the Alenia Aermacchi SF-260 TP employed by the Philippines was not available in the DB3000 database. The SF-260W, a very similar variant, has been used instead. Players may notice that the weapons loadout on the Stethem has been edited. This was done to model the limitation within the scenario that the player only has permission to use up to eight Tomahawk missiles.
