Northern Fury 28 - Bump in the Night, 1994

Northern Fury 28 - Bump in the Night 1 March 1994, 2100 Zulu, 2100 Local The new global war – World War Three - has been raging for a couple weeks, NATO has now begun the offensive but the Warsaw Pact is far from defeated as it showed when the Carrier Eisenhower and most of its CVBG were sunk yesterday in a well coordinated and overwhelming attack by submarines and bombers. Resistance on Iceland is stiff but signs of an impending collapse due to isolation are evident. But now the Soviets are threatening offensive operations in Norway. The ground war in Europe continues to be brutal and deadly, Berlin has fallen as well as most of the former East Germanybut the Germans continue to govern from the old West German facilities in Bonn. The immediate reinforcement to Europe of the 24th Infantry Division (24 ID) and 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment in the first week of the war was quickly followed by III US Corps complete (1 ID, 1 Cav D, 2 AD, 4 ID, 5 ID & Corps Troops) which has largely deployed and is forming in France and Germany but SACEUR is reluctant to commit this force to an offensive yet after the US V and VII counteroffensive ground to a halt around Leipzig earlier this week. A major engagement involving several SSGNs inflicted significant damage on a follow on convoy for the 24th ID, much of its ‘round out’ equipment was either sunk or will be delayed. Meanwhile, the 101st Air Assault Division has deployed to Egypt to stabilize the situation there and the 82nd Airborne Division, which up to now has been the US Strategic Reserve, is deploying to Sicily as the Operational Reserve in Europe. 10th Mountain Division is now the Strategic reserve as I Corps has deployed to the Pacific (9th Lt Division was enroute to Europe and re-directed to the Philippines when that was threatened, and has now been reinforced by 7 ID) Aircraft losses in central Europe count in the thousands, troops in the tens of thousands on both sides. Globally, several hundred vessels have been sunk. C
