Montevideo Reach, 1973

In 1973, a coup in Uruguay placed a military junta in control of the country. In history, the junta crushed all opposition; trade unions and political parties were illegal for a decade following the coup. This scenario assumes that leftists were more successful in resisting the government crackdown, eventually triggering a general rebellion. It also assumes the Sovet Union has decided to support the rebels in the hopes of eventually establishing another socialist state in Latin America.
