Indonesian War - 2 - Air Battle Over Java, 1995

This scenario assumes that in the 1990s Indonesia became increasingly aggressive about protecting its territorial rights, hunting down rebels in various provinces, and so on. Its occupation of Timor has been marked by increasing reports of violence and oppression. This includes an effective blockade of the island, which has led to shortages of food and medicine. In April of 1995, the United Nations is assumed to have passed a resolution "deploring the harsh and inhumane treatment" of those living on the island and encouraging members of the international community to take appropriate action "to relieve the suffering of the civilian population." Only a few days later, Australia and the United Kingdom both decided to take action and sent a joint convoy with humanitarian aid to the island of Timor. It is assumed that Indonesia attempted to stop the convoy and hostilities took place on April 17, 1995. As a result, the British and Australian governments have decided to eliminate Indonesia's ability to attempt further attacks against their ships and aircraft. The first and perhaps most important step in achieving this goal is to cripple Indonesia's air force. The initial relief efforts to Timor were code-named OPERATION SMOKE ORANGE. The new mission, involving offensive operations against Indonesia, has been code-named OPERATION SMOKE JADE. The Australian armed forces remain in operation command, with extensive assistance from the United Kingdom. ------------------------------------------------------- The long ready times for some aircraft is used to simulate maintenance and repairs. A delta template .ini file has been included in the .zip file to assist in updating the scenario to any future versions of the database. Scenario Author: Mark Gellis
