NATO vs Warsaw Pact Date/Time: 2 June 1988 / 04:00:00 Zulu Location: Baltic Sea Playable Sides: Nato, Warsaw Pact Introduction On 12 February 1988 the USS Yorktown (CG-48) was bumped by the Soviet Krivak I class Frigate Bezzavetnyy in the Black Sea. As a result of the collision two Harpoon canisters were torn lose from their mounts on Yorktown causing a fire that detonted both warheads. The resulting fire severe damaged the American ship but the explosion also set the Bezzavetnyy ablaze. The Soviets were finally able to get the conflaguration under control but only after a heavy loss of life. The succeeding months led to ever increasingly recriminations by both sides placing blame for the incident on each other. As diplomatic efforts becaming increasingly futile both sides began mobilzing their forces for war. Scenario Notes: This is a large scenario depicting the opening hours of WWIII in the Baltic Sea. It depicts a combined Warsaw Pact attempt to insert ground forces into the Zealand Region of Denmark.
