Brawling Styles (DSL Conversion & Enhancements)

Converted & reworked from Suru’s Brawling Styles

So recently I was playing with my friend in co-op, and I was thinking about giving Player 1 more abilities to keep up with Player 2. I've also been recommended to try Suru's Brawling Styles, and I didn't expect to actually enjoy it, even though it's a quite simple mod.

As the original release wasn’t designed for DSL which sometimes lead it to crashing, So I decided to recreate it specifically for DSL users. And also fixing some of the mod's features and adding some elements that should be present in Bully combat.

Key Improvements & Additions

  ⪼ Reworked grappling buttons for smoother utility

  ⪼ Improved visuals for choke wrestle grappling

  ⪼ Added button prompt and list for grappling moves (configurable)

  ⪼ Added button prompt for countering kicks/knees

  ⪼ Added reversal to takedown grappling + counter prompt

  ⪼ Added 2 types of Evade

  ⪼ Added Manual Blocking

  ⪼ Fully configurable via .ini

Controls

• - Lock On + Hold (↑) = Open Config Menu

• - (↑)/(↓) = Navigate

  - (→) = Apply

  - (←) = Close Menu

Menu auto-closes after 3 seconds of inactivity.

Brawling Styles

1. Front Grappling

• - (↑) = Choke Wrestling (Unlock: Gym 5)

  - (←) = Body Slam (Unlock: Gym 4)

  - (→) = Back Breaker (Unlock: Gym 3)

  - (↓) = Knee → Punch Grab (Unlock: Welcome to Bullworth)

2. Mount Grappling

• - Fire Button = Head Butt (Unlock: Gym 5)

Strikes and movement controls are mostly unchanged from the original, with some small tweaks.

Combat Strafe (Triggers when locking onto someone that currently fighting)

1. Block = Fire Button (strafe-compatible)

2. Evade 1 (Unlock: Russell in the Hole)

• - Run + Neutral/Fwd/Back = Evade Duck

  - Run + Left/Right = Evade Side

  - Melee (during Evade) = Counter Attack

3. Evade 2 (Unlock: Boxing Challenge)

• - Jump + Neutral/Left/Right = Preps Evade Down

  - Jump + Forward = Preps Weaver

  - Jump + Back = Hopback

  - Melee (during Evade Down) = Hook Counter

  - Melee (during Weaver) = Punch Counter

  - Grab (during Weaver) = 6 Upperland Punch Counter

Counterattacks no longer require the target to attack first, since they’re chained directly into Brawling Style combos.

But perfoming it without enemy attacking will nerfed the damage to 35%

Compatibility

• - Works with Gamepad or Keyboard & Mouse

  - Fully compatible with Bash-Coop (Local Co-op Remake mod) — no interference with 2P events

  - Mostly compatible with any mods that modify NPCs combat behavior

Permissions

This mod is a conversion/rework of Suru’s original Brawling Styles, and I don't have any direct permission from him.

But according to the permissions listed on the original page, conversions/modifications are allowed. However, I wouldn't mind removing this mod if Suru makes a DSL-compatible version in the future.
