Less Fog

Reduces the density of distant atmospheric fog. Designed to be a decent compromise between the eyesore that is the ridiculously overused, obnoxious blue fog that covers the world, and the equally ugly visual artifacts that result from r. Fog=0.

In more technical terms, the Fog Density and Start Distance parameters of Unreal Engine's Exponential Height Fog have been increased or decreased multiplicatively to the vanilla values defined in the TimeOfDayCycle NCS-files.

NEW Added two new presets:

Smoother - Fog is even thinner, but starts closer to the player. Results in an overall similar amount of fog, but a smoother transition.

Vanilla 50 - Vanilla fog density values scaled down to 50%—nothing else. For people who want to preserve the vanilla art style more closely, but with just a little less fog.

Installation

Install it like any other Pak mod—drop the .pak-file in the OakGame/Content/Paks folder.

Notes

The effectiveness of the mod depends heavily on the area and the current weather. In areas like The Fadefields, the improvement is very noticeable, whereas during certain Carcadia Burn weathers, for example, the difference may only be visible in a side-by-side comparison (mostly thanks to the long view distances).

For some inexplicable reason, Gearbox decided to cut some geometry of the game world incredibly close to playable spaces, and then covered it up with thick fog. Because of this, in some of the southern parts of the map, you might notice the sea just sort of ends and cuts off into nothingness. There is no way to avoid this if you reduce the fogginess, since the thick haze is the only thing that hides the edge. Luckily it's not that distracting, nor is it anywhere near as bad as the black void you'll see by disabling fog entirely—again, compromises.
