Physical Walking is a simple scripted mod that overrides the walking and running system in Blade and Sorcery. Instead of using just your joystick to walk in a direction, you instead use your joystick to set the direction you want to walk, then you physically walk in place to walk in that direction, by stepping with your left and right foot in the position you are standing!

When your joystick is not being tilted, you will not walk, regardless of how you move your head, allowing you to only physically move when you want to move. Also, if only your joystick is tilting, you will not move until you begin stepping. It feels surprisingly natural once you get the hang of it, and it will redefine the way you play Blade and Sorcery!

The magic behind this functionality is that it tracks the up and down motion of your head along with your joystick directional input to activate player movement.  As humans, we tend to naturally move our head up and down when we walk, so this provides a quite accurate and lightweight way of converting physical movement into VR locomotion, without the need of any extra sensors, trackers, or software!  Plus, you can naturally strafe side to side and walk backward in a natural way just by changing the position of the joystick.

With the Activate Running at High Velocities setting enabled, moving fast enough will enable the player running animation and speed, including the “hard stomp” running of the Juggernaut skill in the body skill tree.  Tweak this minimum velocity to your comfort settings.

This mod was inspired by the VRocker software available on Steam, which I loved using for years as a 3rd party software to do head-based movement in B&S.  But I began experiencing issues using that software, so I decided to make a version of this functionality within the game!

Settings included in the game menu include:
