📋 About This Mod
Head Tracking for BioShock Remastered
Flatscreen head tracking for BioShock Remastered - no VR headset required. Use a webcam, phone, or any OpenTrack-compatible tracker to look around the environment by moving your head while your aim stays on the mouse. The game remains a normal monitor experience; your head just controls the camera.
- Decoupled look + aim - Look around freely with your head while your mouse aim stays independent
- 6DOF tracking - Full rotation (yaw, pitch, roll) and positional tracking (lean, peek, duck)
- Parallax-correct custom reticle - Drawn into the swap chain so bullets always land where the dot is
- Works with any OpenTrack-compatible source - Webcam, smartphone app, TrackIR, or anything that speaks OpenTrack UDP
Requirements
- A purchased copy of BioShock Remastered on Steam
- Windows 10 / 11
Installation
1. Extract this mod's zip to your game directory, OR
2. Copy xinput1_3.dll into <Steam library>/steamapps/common/BioShock Remastered/Build/Final/ (next to BioshockHD.exe)
That's it - no separate mod loader to install. xinput1_3.dll is a drop-in DLL wrapper that the game loads
automatically.
Setting Up a Tracker
Using OpenTrack (PC webcam):
- Download and install https://github.com/opentrack/opentrack/releases
- Set Input to "neuralnet tracker" (webcam) or your preferred source
- Set Output to "UDP over network" - Host: 127. 0. 0. 1, Port: 4242
- Click Start, then launch the game
Using a phone app:
- Install an OpenTrack-compatible head tracking app on your phone
- Set it to send to your PC's IP address (run ipconfig to find it) on port 4242
- Start tracking on the phone, then launch the game
on e.g. port 5252 (ensure it's open in your firewall), then send from OpenTrack to the mod on 127. 0. 0. 1 port 4242.
Two equivalent binding sets - use whichever your keyboard has:
| Action | Nav-cluster | Chord |
|---------------------|-------------|-----------------|
| Recenter | `Home` | `Ctrl+Shift+T` |
| Toggle tracking | `End` | `Ctrl+Shift+Y` |
| Cycle tracking mode | `Page Up` | `Ctrl+Shift+G` |
`Page Up` / `Ctrl+Shift+G` cycles tracking mode:
1. Normal head-tracked gameplay
2. Positional tracking disabled, rotational tracking enabled
3. Rotational tracking disabled, positional tracking enabled
4. Back to normal
The chord letters T/Y/G sit in a vertical strip in the centre of
the keyboard. `Ctrl+Shift+<letter>` is universally avoided by games,
so the chord set works whether or not your keyboard has a nav
Configuration (non-default FOV)
If you've changed the FOV slider in BioShock's options away from the stock value, the head-tracked reticle WILL drift
away from the actual aim point. Tell the mod your FOV manually:
1. A self-documenting bioshock_headtrack.ini is written to BioShock Remastered/Build/Final/ on first launch.
2. Open it, uncomment the fov_h line, and set it to your in-game horizontal FOV:
3. Restart the game. Valid range: 40-150°.
Troubleshooting
Mod not loading:
- xinput1_3.dll must be in Build/Final/ next to BioshockHD.exe, not the game root
- Verify game files via Steam, then reinstall the mod
No tracking response:
- Make sure your tracker is running and outputting to 127. 0. 0. 1:4242
- Press End to toggle tracking on
- Press Home to recenter
- Check firewall isn't blocking UDP port 4242
- Check the log at BioShock Remastered/Build/Final/bioshock_headtrack.log
Reticle drifts left/right as you turn your head:
- You're running a non-stock FOV. Set fov_h in bioshock_headtrack.ini (see Configuration)
Camera jittering:
- Increase smoothing in your tracking source (OpenTrack has a "Smoothing" filter)
- If using a phone app over WiFi, some jitter is expected - route through OpenTrack for smoothing
- Improve lighting for webcam-based tracking
