How to Update Timestamps of Mods

1. Overview

Battle Brothers uses a system if a loose or zipped nut or cnut file is outdated than files in data001.dat, the game ignores such files and reads original only. This causes problems when there is no logical reason to ignore a mod that was written before the latest patch, if a save game was made using that mod, the game will fail to load the save game.

2. How to Decide If a Mod is Outdated or Not

Although it's up to individual mods and its authors would know whether their mods is deprecated by latest patches, most of the time if the mod relies on hooking of the game's script files it's relatively safe to say the mod is compatible with the latest patch, compared to other mods that overwrites game's original script files to implement the mod's functionality.

That being said, as a rule of thumb, if the script file that was modified by a mod remains bitwise exactly the same before and after the patch, the mod is still compatible to the latest patch.

To conveniently decide whether a mod was affected by the latest patch, if the changelog in the patch notes states any specific object or mechanism was modified by said patch any mod that is related to such object or mechanism became uncompatible.

eg) Alp Nerf mods became uncompatible after recent patch that modified Alps' combat mechanics.

3. How to Quickly Update Timestamps in Mods.

It is much more reasonable to link such methods rather than go on explaining it step-by-step, I will provide links that describes easiest method I found on the internet.

1) In case if the mod is provided in a zip file

There should be other methods to quickly and painlessly update timestamp of files but I find above methods described in links are easy to use and safe as both methods require no external program or is open-source.

The file in the files tab just contains this page in txt format zipped in a zip file, nothing else.
