📋 About This Mod
What is this?
This is just a simple mod to modify terrain.png in order to add a simple persistent hex grid to the battlescape. On top of this, I also added a notch to help tell you the height level of elevated terrain, mostly to help with ambiguous hills. This helps quite a bit with "at a glance" type analysis of whats going on. I've seen people ask for it, and it helps me. Maybe you got no arms, maybe you're eating, petting a dog, in a fist fight, or you just hate mousing over tiles and playing with the height keys and getting attacked by the giant tooltip. Whatever your reasons, I've got a present for ya.

Installation:
Drop data_060 into your Battle Brothers/data folder, it should be alongside the other data_'s like data_001 and data_002. If you have another data_060, just rename either mine or the old one to data_061 for example. iirc as long as its under 999 it'll work.
----------------------------------
Issues:
-BBro's has 3 layers to the battlescape graphics. Terrain, transitions, details, bottom to top. The grid is drawn on the terrain, as that's the only graphic where it'll reliably generate the grid for me. Because of this, on Snow, Steppe, and Forest, the hex's look a bit patchy. Its not a huge issue on Snow and Steppe, but on Forests it looks a bit ugly and even with the grid it can still be tough to read the map because Forests are just such a mess of graphics.
-In fog, rain, and at night the grid is harder to see, about as much so as vanilla assets. Not a huge issue but its a thing.
----------------------------------
Compatibility
Should work with anything as long as it doesn't toy with terrain.png under /gfx in data_001

✨ Key Features
📊 Pros & Cons
✅ Pros
- Simple, focused utility that does exactly what it says—no bloat.
- Height markers are a godsend for judging sniper sightlines.
- Lightweight mod with a decent download count (1,424) for its niche.
⚠️ Cons
- Author calls it 'bootleg'—expect rough edges and potential visual glitches.
- Last updated in October 2024—may not be compatible with the latest game patches.
For XCOM 2 tactical players who obsess over positioning and want to know exactly when a sniper has the high ground. Skip if you prefer a clean UI without extra overlays or if you're on a modded setup that already alters the battlescape.
💡 Beginner Tips
- Check if the hex grid conflicts with other UI mods—disable any that alter the battlescape to avoid overlapping elements.
- Use the height markers to plan flanks: if the marker shows a big difference, expect a penalty or bonus to hit.
- If the grid looks misaligned, try toggling the mod off and on in the mod manager to refresh the overlay.
