📋 About This Mod

Adds the Knife Master as a subclass to the Rogue. Based on the archetype from Pathfinder, the Knife Master specialises in close-in fighting with daggers to surgically dispatch their opponents.

This mod is in honour of the class of the first character I played in Pathfinder: Kingmaker. All I knew back then was that Rogues are cool, daggers are cool, so a Rogue who specialises with daggers is mathematically the mostest cool. I may know better now, but the warm memory of hitting those double digit sneak attack attacks through the first few levels will always be with me.

This mod will let you choose the Knife Master as a subclass of the Rogue at level 3, with some special skills which give it a sharp edge in combat, a slight differing approach to the other Rogue subclasses, and a reason to use daggers in a game full of shortswords.

Installation

Copy the Knife_Master.pak file to your \\Users\\AppData\Local\Larian Studios\Baldur's Gate 3\Mods folder and activate using the in-game mod manager

install using BG3ModManager

There are no requirements for the mod.

Compatibility Framework compatibility is built in, so it should maintain compatibility with other Rogue subclasses. Compatibility.

Subclass Details

Everything is covered in the image above, but I'll briefly add some thoughts/notes here too.

Level 3

Sneak Stab

Immediately upon choosing the subclass, your standard Rogue sneak attack ability will be replaced by Sneak Stab. This will cause sneak attack damage with daggers to improve to multiples of d8 instead of the usual d6, allowing them to gain ground and overtake the potential damage of shortswords, scimitars etc. which would otherwise be preferable to normal daggers.

However, your ranged and thrown sneak attack bonus reduces to d4 and other melee weapons will lose their sneak attack entirely.

[](This last point is different from Pathfinder, where other melee weapons keep the d4 bonus. This proved awkward to code in BG3 and though I can do it, I wanted to avoid overcrowding the action menu with multiples of the same skills in order to achieve it. Instead, this emphasises your commitment to dagger fighting and the double-edged nature of the class.)

[]Note that the original Sneak Attack actions will stay in your spellbook and initially your hotbar, though you will not be able to use them. I recommend overwriting the actions in your hotbar with the two new ones, purely to keep it tidy.

[*]As of version 1. 1, I have allowed Sneak Stab to activate more than once per turn. This means, if you can save your bonus action, it can strike twice with both daggers when using melee attack. If you are hastened or have multi-classed to get a second attack, and you can maintain advantage, you could sneak attack for a thir
