Distinctive Arrows of Slaying

[July 21, 2026] Version 1. 2 has been released! It adds my custom icons to the tooltips for all Arrows of Slaying – that means the regular nine arrows that all users can find in the game, plus the additional five arrows for users with mods that give access to those. If you don't care about tooltip icons, you won't need this update. For this version, there is no localization file, so I'm fairly sure that translation mods should not be necessary. [December 19, 2025] Version 1. 1 is out! It contains additional icons for the five Arrows of Slaying that are normally unobtainable in the game: arrows of Celestial, Fey, Giant, Ooze, and Plant slaying. If you're using a mod that grants access to these five arrows, you'll want to check out version 1. 1. If you only have access to the nine regular Arrows of Slaying, version 1. 0 is for you.

Background

There are many different kinds of arrows in the game, and most of them have unique icons. The Arrows of Slaying, however, do not. Apart from the coloured borders indicating their rarity, all variants look exactly the same. I find it tedious to have to hover over each arrow in my inventory or hotbar to bring up the tooltip so I can see what type of creature it is for, and I wanted to do something about it.

What the mod does

Distinctive Arrows of Slaying adds nine new, handmade icons on top of the regular Arrow of Slaying, so that you can tell the variants apart at a glance. The mod does not change anything else about any of the arrows – only their icons.

These new icons will appear in the inventory, on the hotbar, and in the controller interface. As of version 1. 2, they will also appear on tooltips.

How it works

I extracted the original arrow icons with BG3 Modder's Multitool, and drew my own additions on top of them in Photoshop. I used the official Toolkit to convert the icons to . DDS format, and then connected them to the arrows via their root templates. For a full list of affected files, please see the spoilers in the Compatibility section below.
