Dialogue and Reactivity Tags (DART) FrameworkWhat are Dialogue Reactivity Tags?

Dialogue Reactivity refers to the options that appear in certain conversations depending on your character's class, race, deity, background, and so on. Reactivity is a big part of BG3, making your choice of class meaningful beyond combat or rolling dice; and something that modded content often lacks as while a modmaker could tag their Spellsword class with both the WIZARD and FIGHTER, they still appear in dialogue as belonging to those classes.

What is DART?

DART is a framework mod, meaning it is meant to be used by other mods. It gives modmakers the option to use reactivity tags for their own mods; having them appear to be attributed to their custom class/race/deity/etc. while in dialogue, and supports editing dialogue and controlling how/when these dialogue options appear.

In a nutshell, it lets other mods have custom dialogue options.

How does DART work?

DART works by listening for a player controlled actor entering dialogue. As an example, if they have the WIZARD tag, it checks to see if they have the Wizard class. If not, it looks at what they do have until it finds the source of the tag. Once it has, it uses client-side localisation editing to change the name and description of the tag to make it look like it comes from the modded source. When the player leaves dialogue, it changes everything back to how it was.

All changes to localisation handles are done client-side, meaning in multiplayer if one player is in dialogue and has their WIZARD tag altered, another player won't notice any changes unless they are in the same dialogue.

DART does not require any changes to other mods in order to work, and will automatically attribute tags to their sources. With a DART Configuration file, it can do much more than that.

How do I use DART?

As A Player

As a player, just download DART. It will work automatically with any mod that introduces a class, race, deity or background that uses any vanilla tag that adds dialogue options. You can access settings for DART via the Mod Configuration Menu, including whether to automatically alter tags, prioritise modded sources over vanilla ones, subclasses over main classes, show the original source of a tag in its description, or toggle customised dialog modmakers may have included via DART's json files.

As A Modmaker

You do not need to do anything special to make your mod compatible with DART, as it works automatically. All you need is to make sure you have your class, race, deity or background tagged with a tag that grants dialogue reactivity; and DART will do the rest.
