The Action economy in BG3 sometimes feels weird

why can't i choose to do something that would cost a bonus action with a regular action ?

Well, now you can

this mods adds a new common action (Hurry) that costs a regular action and, if triggered, provides a bonus action to the character in that turn

With this you can, for example:

• []consume 2 potions and not attack anyone in a turn

  []cast sanctuary and healing word in the same turn

• if you are a thief you can have 3 bonus actions in the same turn
