📋 About This Mod
Adds the new Sorcerer-exclusive cantrip from DnD 5R: Sorcerous Burst, a unique cantrip that can change the elemental damage type at will and can potentially trigger multiple bursts of damage in a single casting.
Everything was implemented as RAW as possible. The cantrip is exclusive to Sorcerers, and it has a custom icon made by me.
The base damage of the cantrip is 1d8 of the chosen damage type, and it uses the same scaling of similar d8 cantrips in BG3 (base damage increases to 2d8 at level 5, 3d8 at level 10, and so on).
To explain the special effect:
-
[]Everytime you cast the cantrip, there is a 1 in 8 chance (in other words, you roll a hidden d8, or 12. 5% chance) that you will do an additional 1d8 of damage of the same type.[/]
[]This special effect is triggered for EACH dice of damage on your cantrip. This means that, at level 1-4, where the base damage is 1d8, you get one roll of the 1 in 8 chance for the effect to trigger.[/]
[]Each time the 1d8 of additional damage is caused by the special effect activating, it ALSO causes another roll attempt for the additional effect to re-trigger. This can potentially create a cascade of chain reactions (with a cap, mentioned further below), which is very fun.[/]
[]Critical hits double your damage dice, so as expected they will double the amount of times you roll for the special effect.[/]
[]For example, at level 5 where the base damage of the cantrip becomes 2d8, if you deal Critical Hit (which makes your base damage become 4d8) you will get 4 rolls at the 1 in 8 chance to activate the effect.[/]
[]This is important: each time you roll for the effect, they are rolled and triggered independently. This means that if you happen to get 4 rolls for the effect, you roll four times a 1 in 8 chance, it does not become a 4 in 8 chance. This also means that, if you get lucky, you might literally get +4d8 of extra damage with your cantrip in this same example if all rolls happen to trigger the effect, which is very powerful. This is the core feature and unique aspect of this cantrip, the wild, chance-based damage.[/]
[]The cap of this effect is as follows: this effect can only trigger a maximum number of times per casting equal to the Charisma modifier of the Sorcerer. In other words, if you have a Charisma modifier of 4 (18 Charisma), then the maximum number of times this effect can inflict extra damage during a single casting is 4 times.[/]
For those interested, the only change compared to the source material being adapted was that instead of checking whether you rolled an 8 on each damage dice to trigger the effect (what the original rules say, but something impossible to do by normal means in BG3), it's instead a hidden independent 1d8 roll for each damage dice. In practice, the chance of activation is the exact same.
