📋 About This Mod
U
ser feedback requested! Would you rather have the fizzled casts take away your action point or not? I'm conflicted.Ok, I integrated it into an MCM toggle.
I wasn't happy with class restricted scrolls, so this happened. Kinda self-explanatory.
From 5e Rules:
If the spell is of a higher level than you can normally cast, you must make an ability check using your spellcasting ability to determine whether you cast it successfully. The DC is 10+SpellLevel. On a failed check, the spell disappears from the scroll with no other effect.
Basically, If you have the Spell Slots unlocked to be able to cast it, you can cast it freely.
If not, you need an Ability Check with your Spell Casting Ability.
When multiclassing, the way Larian picks Spell Casting Ability for scrolls is very stupid weird, but I believe they just did it so that it would be simpler. They use the Spell Casting Ability of the last class you took your 1st level in. This is nonsense for obvious reasons.
The way I do is, check your leveled classes and their Spell Casting Abilities and use the highest one. But, I can only do this for the ability check, as the I couldn't figure out how to modify it for the Attack Roll. (I'm not sure if it is possible right now even.)
The check to use the scroll is a Raw Ability check so it doesn't use your Proficiency Bonus (per 5e rules). This makes it more difficult for both for non-casters to use the scrolls and to use the higher level scrolls for everyone else, which hopefully will flavour your game as it did mine.
If you are a martial without an ability to cast spells, Intelligence is used.
Martials need a check for everything since they have no spell slots, even cantrips.
This mod also makes Scroll of Revivify (a level 3 spell) difficult to cast first few levels. You have been warned.
I haven't confirmed it but true resurrection should be freely casteable.
I think I squashed most bugs but let me know if you find some.
