📋 About This Mod
The Problem This Fixes
When a mod teleports you to a custom standalone level, BG3 thinks you've left the act permanently. The game immediately:
-
[]Closes open quests as "abandoned" (Harpy Meal, Captured Goblin, Robbed Adventurer, Idol Theft, and more)
[
]Kills NPCs outright (the Unfortunate Gnome literally dies via a scripted Die() call)[]Can kill Shadowheart if she hasn't been recruited yet
[]Removes Minthara from the world if she's knocked out
[]Destroys your camp state
[]Forces the grove attack to resolve as a defeat if it's in progress
[]Triggers tiefling refugees to leave
[]Deactivates story goals that can never be reactivated
All of this happens the instant the act level unloads, before you even finish loading into the custom level.
The Fix
SafeTravel overrides 14 vanilla Osiris goal files, adding a guard condition to every LevelUnloading handler that causes story damage.
When a mod sets DB_TempDepart(1) before teleporting, all of these handlers are skipped.
When the player returns and the fact is cleared, vanilla behavior resumes completely.
Normal gameplay is never affected. The guard only activates when a mod explicitly sets it.
Who This Is For
Players: If a mod you use lists SafeTravel as a dependency, install it. That's it. You don't need to configure anything.
Mod Authors: If your mod teleports players to a custom standalone level (not a level template embedded inside an act level), add SafeTravel as a dependency and wrap your teleports with two lines of Osiris. See the Mod Author Guide section below.
What's Protected
SafeTravel guards against every story-breaking LevelUnloading handler in the base game across all acts, including but not limited to:
Act 1 (WLD_Main_A)
-
[]Quest closures: Harpy Meal, Captured Goblin, Robbed Adventurer, Idol Theft
[
]NPC deaths: Unfortunate Gnome, Bugbear Ninja, potentially Shadowheart[]NPC removals: Minthara, gnome goblins
[]World state: Grove attack forced defeat, tiefling departure, druid attack progression, tavern burning
[]Goal completions: Orpheus Protection and several others deactivate early
Act 2 (SCL_Main_A / INT_Main_A)
-
[]Minthara removed from camp if not recruited
[]Pixie shield disabled, Selune ointment removed
[]Shadow curse tracking cleared
- Camp night mode and CURRENTREGION flags
Act 3 (BGO_Main_A / CTY_Main_A)
-
[]Minthara removed from camp if not recruited
-
[]Quest closures: Harpy Meal, Captured Goblin, Robbed Adventurer, Idol Theft

✨ Key Features
📊 Pros & Cons
✅ Pros
- Solves a real problem for modders—travel between base and modded levels has been a headache for years.
- Recent update (April 2026) shows the author is still active.
- Small but present community (30 endorsements, 818 downloads) suggests it's trusted by those who need it.
⚠️ Cons
- Only 30 endorsements, so it's a niche tool with limited proven track record.
- As a dependency, it's useless on its own—you need mods that actually use it.
For mod creators building custom levels who need a reliable way to connect them to the base game. Also for players who want to install mods that depend on Safe Travel. Skip if you're looking for gameplay content—this is a backend utility.
