Shades are (or were) normal humans, elves, etc... who through arcane magic merged with the shadow stuff of the Plane of Shadows. While they still appear as their original species and retain their abilities, they have grown in power by merging with the Plane of Shadows.

This merger with the Plane of Shadows has changed their essence, so that they are essentially undying, unless they meet with an unfortunate accident or are killed. Diseases have no effect upon them, and they can regenerate 1 hp/round.

Because of your heritage being a creature of the Plane of Shadows, you do not gain inspiration from this background. You are a creature made of the void and thus are not inspired by anything in this world.

As a Shade, your abilities and powers wax and wane with the lighting conditions around you:

• []You have Superior Darkvision (No matter what race you choose) at 24 range.

  []Summon Shadow Undead - (No Mirror Image version starts at level 1 instead of level 4)

  []Immune to Disease and Sleep

  []Immune to the Shadow Curse (Makes sense as you are from that plane)

  []Vulnerable to Radiant Damage

  In Shadows:

  • []All base ability scores are increased by +2

    []Saving throws are made at a +4

    []Advantage on attack rolls

    []Gain the ability to use Shadowstep

    []Gain 3 mirror images of yourself that automatically appear when in shadows (but Vanish in Sunlight) (Made a version that doesn't have this for those who find the constant mirror images distracting)

    []Arcane bonus to spell damage (1+Level)  - (No Mirror Image version starts at level 1 instead of level 4)

    []One With the Shadows - Character automatically allows you to vanish into the darkness and turn invisible when you move into shadow conditions.

   - Note: For balance this only occurs when you first go into shadow conditions and once used with attack or otherwise dispelled; It requires leaving and entering shadow conditions again to reapply
  • []Regenerate at 1 Hit Point/Turn

    []Extra Melee Attack when in shadows - (No Mirror Image version starts at level 1 instead of level 4)

    In Sunlight:

    • []All base ability scores are decreased by -2

      []Saving throws are made at -4
