📋 About This Mod
Paladin is by far my favorite class in BG3, but the class is not without its faults. The first glaring issue for Paladins is spell slots. Given that Paladin is a half-caster, you're very limited on spell slots and more times than not, there's no reason to ever spend them on anything other than the Divine Smite + Thunderous Smite combo. Since Smites just do so much, it feels like much more of a waste if you use them for anything else. This can be resolved by multiclassing and only taking a couple levels of Paladin for more spell slots, but at that point you're losing a lot of flavor of what a Paladin should be: a front-lining beast of divine light that not only smites their foes, but also protects their allies from harm.
What I've done is made a handful of changes to Paladin that, in my opinion, aren't enough to consider a full rework but still fills in the gaps, allowing any of the subclasses to lean into tanking, healing, or DPS, and rewards you for taking 12 levels of Paladin while still keeping the door open for multiclassing. I was heavily inspired by the way Paladin was implemented in Home Brew - Comprehensive Reworks. I also highly recommend Lightbringer Reforged to anyone looking for a more comprehensive Paladin rework (especially for those who are a fan of comboing Smites together). However, I wanted to make something that stayed a little closer to vanilla, and thus this mod was born.
In 1. 0, my vision was resolving Paladin's issues by giving full caster spell slot progression and tweaking the rest of Paladin's kit around that. More spell slots, more options. One minor problem was all this really did was keep the smite-spamming playstyle, but make it even stronger (a buff that Paladin REALLY did not need). The other issue was, because I added full caster progression, compatibility was a nightmare. It was incompatible with virtually any other Paladin mod. While certainly not perfect (and could probably be done even better), I'm hoping the approach I took this time will be much more flexible.
Main Progression Changes
[]Divine Smite rework - Divine Smite no longer uses Spell Slots and can no longer be used as a reaction. Instead, it uses a custom, unique Paladin resource: Divine Smite charges. Divine Smite's damage scales from 2d8 up to 5d8 every 3 Paladin levels (not character levels). So 3d8 at level 4, 4d8 at level 7, 5d8 at level 10. Levels 4, 7, and 10 are when you unlock additional Divine Smite charges as well (which restore on a Short Rest). Charges are not consumed if the attack misses and damage is further increased against fiends and undead, consistent with how vanilla Divine Smite works.[/]
[]Additional Channel Oath charge - An additional Channel Oath charge at level 3, offering more flexibility with Channel Oath spells.[/]
[*]Champion Chal
Paladin Plus reworks the Paladin class with an improved Divine Smite, upscaled Smite variants, an extended spell list, enhanced auras, and Channel Oath tweaks. It aims to make Paladins better front-line protectors and divine smiters. A niche mod with 26 endorsements and 1,467 downloads, last updated March 2026.
✨ Key Features
📊 Pros & Cons
✅ Pros
- Directly addresses Paladin weaknesses, making them better front-liners and protectors.
- Small but active community (26 endorsements, 1,467 downloads) suggests dedicated fans.
- Recently updated (March 2026), so likely compatible with current game version.
⚠️ Cons
- Low endorsement count (26) means it's not widely tested—expect potential balance issues.
- No detailed patch notes or documentation provided, so you'll have to discover changes in-game.
- May conflict with other class overhaul mods; no compatibility list given.
For Paladin mains who feel the class underdelivers on the fantasy of a divine protector. If you want a more robust support-tank experience with improved smites and auras, this is for you. Skip if you're happy with vanilla Paladin or prefer total class overhauls.
💡 Beginner Tips
- Check your mod manager's load order to ensure Paladin Plus loads after other class mods.
- Test Divine Smite on a training dummy to see the new scaling before committing to a build.
- If you use other Paladin mods, disable them first to avoid conflicts.
