📋 About This Mod
This is an honor mode extension which ups the difficulty of the game significantly by restricting or disabling core game mechanics like resurrection and the downed count without changing the numbers on enemies. Perfect for those of you who
Your party is in a dire situation. The gods seem unusually dejected, offering only the barest of help. Should you or your companions fall… well, they might not return.
Welcome to Mortal Perils Mode!
This mod is aimed at those of you who have already beaten Honor Mode and want a challenge that goes beyond permanence of choices. What does this mean? Death, for the most part. Most of the rules in place exist to give you a real sense of what it means to be in mortal peril.
Here are the specifics:
- The mod only takes effect on honor mode and custom with honor mode enabled.
- All scrolls of Revivify are removed from the game. Someone might have sealed away a scroll of true resurrection in case of emergency though...
- The spell revivify will not bring back your companions.
- Withers is no longer so keen on providing his services cheaply… and has finally learned to seal his coin purse.
- Divine Intervention is restricted to only one use per game. Choose wisely.
- All Illithid restoration pods are disabled.
- A big one: your companions will instantly die if their health reaches 0. That's right, you cannot be downed, putting you on an even playing field with everything else.
- And lastly, if all host avatars are dead, your campaign is over. As Halsin would say, few are the animals that can survive without their head.
See optional files for variations of these rulesets.
Mod Recommendations:
Given the nature of this mod, I recommend using a mod that removes the party size limitation. It will still be challenging, and more fun too to have all your cards available. Also, I like Alfira. You'll need her on this journey, I assure you, so let's just say it's a must to include AlfiraJoinsTheParty (even though she somehow always dies first... poor girl). I'm a fan of extra encounters and minibosses, so get that plus its recommended mod to rebalance experience gain. Any combination of difficulty/companion mods with this really, should provide you with a unique and challenging experience.
Disclaimers:
This began as something I slapped together for personal use, but it felt stingy not to share the challenge. I have tested all the mechanics and it has some known bugs.
This is as such, subject to change. I may add or remove features depending on feedback (I still have some ideas), polish the code to the best of my ability, or leave it as is. I will not be held liable for any lost saves or crashes. Only Use this mod on new saves just to be safe.
Known bugs:
Upon death, the death saving throw indicator will still briefly show up, and you might hear dead companions moan as if they were downed.
The blood of Lathander's passive; Lathander's blessing, does not trigger in time to save your companions.
