📋 About This Mod

Made for Patch 8 - Hotfix 35

-- 💖🖤  <3  🤍💚 --

Have you ever wanted something else to say at the end of your first conversation with Barcus besides "You're far from home as a deep gnome" or just, straight up leaving? Have you ever found it weird that deep gnome characters can say that to him, too? Have you ever wondered why you, a Baldurian, had somehow never seen any deep gnomes in the city before?

If the answer to any of those questions is 'yes,' then this mod is for you.

Adds extra dialogue options to the end of the conversation with Barcus Wroot after you free him from the windmill. Unlocks the ability to see his dialogue about Wulbren in that scene without saying something rude to him. And, if you have my custom companion, Jason Altea in the party, you'll get an extra approval/disapproval opportunity for him.

Changes made by the mod:

Adds 4 new dialogue options at the end of the conversation, where you originally only had the option to leave or tell Barcus "You're a little far from home for a deep gnome."

Those new options are:

(In response, Barcus will tell you he's looking for Wulbren, skipping his original "Ignorance is alive and well" line.)

(Barcus will tell you "Yes, yes, I'm well aware..." before talking about Wulbren. Fun fact! The line I added here was originally from overworld dialogue Barcus has in the Last Light Inn, talking to His Majesty.)

(Will skip the conversation about Wulbren to Barcus's last line, "On that note, I bid thee farewell. If we should meet again... well, we will have met again," before ending the scene.)

(Deep gnome specific, and links to the "Yes, yes, I'm well aware..." line before talking about Wulbren. I wanted to give deep gnomes a little bit of unique dialogue, and I may add more in the future, but I'm a bit limited in available voice lines I can pull for responses. I'm imagining his response here as him brushing off someone he thinks said something silly 😅 Listen, he's not going to tell another deep gnome they're ignorant for saying something like this, but he's lived in Baldur's Gate for years, and so have a lot of other deep gnomes, so I tried to go for "Ok sure yeah if that's how you feel. Anyway," vibes,,,)

I've also disabled the original "You're a little far from home for a deep gnome" line for deep gnomes; the "We're both a little far from home for deep gnomes, aren't we?" line I added is an alternative to it.

I also added two opportunities to gain or lose approva

📊 Pros & Cons

✅ Pros

  • Community-approved with 216 endorsements and over 50k downloads—clearly a popular pick for dialogue expansion.
  • Tiny, focused mod that slots right into your load order without bloat.
  • Freshly updated (Dec 2025), so it's likely compatible with current game patches.

⚠️ Cons

  • Only affects one conversation—if you're looking for broader dialogue overhauls, this won't scratch that itch.
  • Niche appeal: only matters if you actually care about Barcus's post-windmill chat.
🎯 Is This For You?
For Baldur's Gate 3 roleplayers who want more choices in a specific, memorable moment. If you're a completionist who exhausts every dialogue tree, this adds a bit of fresh flavor. Skip if you prefer gameplay-altering mods—this is purely conversational.
📦 Install:Easy· Under 1 minute

💡 Beginner Tips

  • Since it's a dialogue mod, make sure it's active before you reach the windmill encounter—load order shouldn't matter much, but keep it enabled.
  • If you're using other dialogue mods, test this one early to avoid conflicts—disable others if lines don't show up.
  • No special setup needed; just drop it into your mod manager and you're good.
