Loremaster Wizard Subclass

🧙‍♂️ DESCRIPTION

Loremaster is a Wizard subclass dedicated to the pursuit of arcane knowledge. Rather than specialising in a single school of magic, Loremasters devote themselves to mastering the breadth of the arcane arts, expanding both their magical repertoire and their ability to apply it.

Through expanded spell acquisition, more flexible spell preparation, and increased spell slot progression, the Loremaster gains access to more spells, keeps more of them readily available, and can cast a broader range of magic than other Wizard subclasses.

Loremaster is inspired by the 2017 Unearthed Arcana Lore Mastery Wizard and the later adaptation created for Solasta: Crown of the Magister, reimagined for Baldur's Gate 3.

💙WHY DO I NEED THIS?

Vanilla Wizard subclasses encourage specialisation, rewarding players who focus on a particular school of magic. This offers strong thematic identity, but it can also limit flexibility.

Loremaster takes a different approach. Instead of improving a single discipline, it rewards the pursuit of magical knowledge itself, expanding your spell repertoire, increasing the number of spells you can keep available, and providing the resources to make use of them. The result is a wizard who is better prepared for the unexpected.

If you've ever wanted your wizard to make greater use of the vast spell list available in Baldur's Gate 3, Loremaster is designed for you. It offers a broader, more adaptable playstyle while remaining firmly rooted in the identity of a scholarly master of the arcane.

🌀 HOW DOES IT WORK?

Loremaster provides subclass features at levels 2, 6, and 10, in line with BG3's vanilla level progression. Support extends to level 20 for players using the Expansion/5e Spells framework (see Recommended Mods below), with an additional subclass feature at level 14.

The subclass provides the following features:

Level 2: Arcane Scholar

Your scholarship is unrivalled. You gain Advantage on Arcana, History, and Religion Skill Checks.

You learn Wizard ritual spells automatically, when they become available. Ritual spells are always prepared.

Level 6: Spell Savant

Extensive research has enhanced your spell acquisition.

You learn one additional Wizard spell when you gain a Wizard level.

Level 10: Arcane Master
