📋 About This Mod
Mod Features:
This mod improves the hair clipping on BT1 gnomes and BT1 + BT2 halflings by adjusting the autosnap bones. BT1 dwarves received a single small tweak to improve hair clipping into the neck. This mod is not perfect, but it should be a noticeable improvement on most hairs for most heads. This also fixes clipping on NPCs.
Hair fit will also be improved on modded heads and modded hairs! :)
It looks like the vanilla short-race hairs were all modeled on dwarf heads. However, gnomes and halflings have very different head shapes both from dwarves and each other. (Unlike human vs elf, which are very similar.) The result is that many of the hairs look less than good on gnomes and halflings. I have fixed this as best as I can by adjusting only the autosnap bones. Some hairs for some races would require an edit on the actual hair to fit. Hairs would have to be refit specifically by race and body type because what looks bad on a gnome, looks fine on a dwarf for example. In short, it would be messy and a lot of work. It'd be best trying to do this for yourself for a specific head/hair if that's what you want. I don't presently have plans to do this for any hairs, but if I do change my mind and edit a vanilla hair to fit a specific short-race body type or head better, I will share it as an optional file on Nexus.
I would like to clarify I'm not pointing fingers at Larian. BG3 is a massive game and they had to choose their priorities (and the dwarves look good!).
Now with special optional file for BT1 Halfling heads 1 and 5!
Other BT1 halflings may have bangs that stick out farther than expected, but you don't meet many so it shouldn't be noticeable. But your Tav will look better!
Will this affect facial or other animations?
No. The gesture/expression/etc bones are different from the hair autosnap bones.
Why didn't you edit BT2 gnomes?
I didn't feel like they needed it overall. For the few hairs that did have minor issues, when I tried to accommodate them, it ended up ruining many other hairs.
Why does X hair still look really bad?
Halflings, gnomes, and dwarves all use the same hair meshes, but the head shapes are very different from each other and the vanilla hairs were modeled on just the dwarves. Also some of the short race hairs have visible texture or weight painting issues when not on a dwarf. A glaring example is Pinned and Perfect on a BT2 Gnome. This is what the pro visual modders have told me when I showed them screenshots.
Can you fix the hair clipping/weirdness on X race/head/hair?[
