📋 About This Mod
Mod Summary
Adds dye support to all the base-game shields (let me know if I missed any!).
Mod Details
The mod adds dye-maps to the all base-game shield models/visual-templates, allowing them to be dyed in the same way as normal armour items. Makes for a good combination with one of the always-visible shield mods, like Visible Shields (other mods are available).
The shields will use the cloth primary/secondary dye-colours as their main colourations when dyed, as the palettes for the base-game dyes are extremely inconsistent regarding the leather/metal colour definitions (some use swapped colours for leather, some metal colours are all over the place etc.). The only reliable way I could get the colours looking consistent across all the dyes was to use the brighter colours that appear in the cloth definitions (so some of the shields might end up being a bit bright/garish).
Note that the mod doesn't change any of the underlying base-textures for the shields, so any dye-colours that are applied will be blended with the colours of the underlying base-texture. This can cause some shields that have any strong non-neutral colours in them to end up with some rather weird/murky colours when combined with certain dyes (e.g. 'Viconia's Walking Fortress'). If I get a chance I'll try to have a look at how to add in some neutralised greyscale base-textures for those shields, to help prevent that colour merging/tinting issue.
Compatibility Notes
The mod overrides/replaces the material-definitions that the shields use when loading their models/textures (it doesn't actually touch any of the items directly), so it should be safe to install/uninstall mid-playthrough. After uninstalling the mod, the game should just revert back to using the default materials. It should also be reasonably compatible with any mods that add new shield items which use any of the existing base-game shield models, or any mods that might change which visual-template a shield uses (if it changes it to an existing base-game model/visual-template).

📊 Pros & Cons
✅ Pros
- Community favorite with 585 endorsements and nearly 200k downloads.
- Simple and effective—does exactly what it says with no bloat.
- Opens up new fashion options for shield users without needing a full overhaul.
⚠️ Cons
- Only affects base-game shields—modded shields won't get dye support unless they're patched.
- No detailed instructions or images in the description, so you're on your own for installation.
- Last updated in August 2024—might not be compatible with future game patches.
For players who like to customize their character's look and want to match their shield to their armor or color scheme. If you're a fashion-conscious adventurer who uses shields, this is a must-have. Skip if you don't care about shield aesthetics or rarely use shields.
💡 Beginner Tips
- Make sure to place the mod files in your game's Data folder or use a mod manager to avoid conflicts.
- After installing, check your shield's dye slots in the crafting or upgrade menu to apply colors.
- If you use other shield mods, test them in-game to see if they also get dye support—if not, you may need a compatibility patch.
