"Custom Overlays for Loot Objects, Rarities & Styling"
A custom rarity framework for Baldur's Gate 3 that gives modders 13 brand new item rarities to work with.
Built on the foundation of Caites' excellent Better Tooltips and Better Inventory UI (and includes all of their features), COLORS adds new visual rarity tiers complete with custom title colors, font styling, tooltip gradients, rarity labels, and inventory frame artwork.
CURRENT STATUS
On launch, COLORS currently only supports the original Artifact items that Caites registered as well as the Cursed items from GraphicFade's Dynamic Encounters mod.

🎯 What This Mod Does
COLORS is a framework mod, not a content mod. It doesn't add items to the game itself. Instead, it provides a system that other modders can plug into to give their custom items new rarity tiers that aren't available in the base game.
If you're a player: install COLORS to make any modded item that supports it display with its proper custom rarity styling.
If you're a modder: use COLORS as a dependency and assign one of the pre-registered slot contentuids to your item's DisplayName to give it any of the 13 new rarities.
📦 What's Included
-
[]13 new custom rarities with full visual styling[/]
[]359 pre-registered slots that modders can claim for their items (info coming soon)[/]
[]22 custom DDS textures for the new rarity inventory frames
🔧 For Modders - How To Use
1. Pick a Slot
Select an available pre-registered contentuid from this list:
-List Link Returning Soon-
Choose any unclaimed contentuid from the rarity you want, e.g.:
h0c0001a4gf004ge127g0421gcb9504bb7a92
2. Set Your Item's DisplayName Handle
In your item's root template:
<attribute id="DisplayName" type="TranslatedString" handle="h0c0001a4gf004ge127g0421gcb9504bb7a92" version="1" />
3. Define the Display Text in Your Loca
In your mod's English XML:
<content contentuid="h0c0001a4gf004ge127g0421gcb9504bb7a92" version="1">Sword of Legends</content>
4. Add COLORS as a Dependency for your mod.
That's it. Your item now displays with the custom rarity styling whenever a player has COLORS installed. Without it, the item gracefully falls back to its base game rarity.
COLORS - Custom Rarities is a framework for Baldur's Gate 3 that provides modders with 13 new item rarity overlays, expanding the base game's rarity system. It's a dependency for other mods, not a standalone content mod, and has 71 endorsements with 13,346 downloads.
✨ Key Features
📊 Pros & Cons
✅ Pros
- Solid download-to-endorsement ratio (13,346 downloads, 71 endorsements) — people are grabbing it even if they don't endorse
- Essential for modders who want to add custom rarity colors without reinventing the wheel
- Lightweight framework — no bloat, just the overlays
⚠️ Cons
- Not for players — if you're not a modder, this does nothing for your game
- Only 71 endorsements — niche audience, so community support might be thin
- Last updated April 2026 — could break with future BG3 patches, but no signs of abandonment yet
For BG3 modders who want to create items with custom rarity colors. If you're a player looking for new gear, skip this — it's a building block, not content.
💡 Beginner Tips
- If you're a modder, place this in your mod manager and load it before any mods that depend on it.
- Check the mod's page for a list of compatible mods that use this framework — it's meant to be a dependency, so pair it with mods that require it.
- Since it's a framework, you won't see any changes in-game unless another mod uses it — don't panic if nothing appears.
