📋 About This Mod
The Evocation Wizard unlocks the Potent Cantrip subclass feature at Level 6. Potent Cantrip causes cantrips with a Saving Throw to deal half damage against enemies who succeed against the Saving Throw. Unfortunately, there are no Evocation cantrips in BG3 that use Saving Throws. This mod alters Potent Cantrip to be more suited to an Evocation wizard by making it trigger on attack rolls with Evocation cantrips. This will synergize with Empowered Evocation and scale well into the late game, playing into the Evoker's role as the Wizard's blaster-oriented subclass.
Potent Cantrip:
Your cantrips become harder to evade entirely.
When you fail an attack roll against a creature with an Evocation cantrip, the creature still takes half the cantrip's damage, but suffers no additional effect. This new version of Potent Cantrip works on Fire Bolt, Ray of Frost, and Shocking Grasp from the Wizard's spell list. It also works on Eldritch Blast, if you acquire this cantrip through multiclassing. It no longer works on Acid Splash, Poison Spray, Sacred Flame, or Vicious Mockery.
Compatibility
This mod edits the spell records for Acid Splash, Eldritch Blast, Fire Bolt, Poison Spray, Ray of Frost, Sacred Flame, Shocking Grasp, and Vicious Mockery. This means that NPC Wizards who have Potent Cantrip will benefit from from my changes, but Better Potent Cantrip will be incompatible with other mods that touch these seven spells.
Installation
This mod should have no external requirements. I recommend installing it with BG3 Mod Manager, but other mod managers should work as well.

✨ Key Features
📊 Pros & Cons
✅ Pros
- Directly improves a weak subclass feature, making Evocation cantrips hit harder
- Lightweight and focused—no bloat, just the one change you want
- Recently updated (Dec 2023), so it's likely compatible with current patches
⚠️ Cons
- Small player base (22 endorsements) means less community testing and feedback
- Only affects Evocation cantrips—if you don't play that subclass, this does nothing for you
For Baldur's Gate 3 players who run Evocation Wizards and feel Potent Cantrip underdelivers. If you're a min-maxer or just want your cantrips to pack a punch, this is a quick fix. Skip if you don't play Evocation or want broader gameplay changes.
💡 Beginner Tips
- Make sure you're playing an Evocation Wizard to see the effect—this only changes that subclass feature.
- If you're using other mods that alter wizard features, load this one after them to avoid conflicts.
- Check the mod's page for any patch notes or updates if you're on a newer game version.
