📋 About This Mod
Astarion reacts to his portrait and statue through bark lines - just like Ascended Astarion reacts to getting his mirror image restored. Also gives +5 approval for each gift. Without a cutscene - yet (in future plans).
Description
Just like in the vanilla game, you need to control Astarion to buy his statue in the Circus in Act 3 or to pose for Oskar Fevras to get his portrait - after successfully completing Oskar's Act 3 quest. He will react to getting his portrait painted and appearing in his inventory:
You can then place it in the world, click on it and get a reaction line chosen randomly - it's akin to when companions react to clicking on a mirror and always have something to say.
The reaction to his statue is triggered by Astarion simply walking near the statue - no need to click anything, he simply reacts when he gets into close proximity.
Install with mod manager of choice. Can be installed mid-playthrough - there will be no issue with the statue of Astarion which is already bought and is present in camp, he will react to it. But the same isn't true for his portrait, unfortunately. Due to how Larian coded the creation of portrait items, I haven't found a way to tell if it's Astarion's or someone else's portrait in the unmodded game. So if you've already had his portrait painted BEFORE installing this mod, he won't react to it. You need to ask Oskar to paint it with the mod installed.
I am well aware that ideally he should react for the first time in a cutscene, but I'm still learning modding for this game, so it ISN'T currently implemented, but certainly in the future plans for this mod.
The only person who has tested this mod so far is me, this is why it's still beta version and please report if something doesn't work properly - I will be working on fixing bugs.
This mod comes in two variations:
1. Portrait lies horizontally just like in the vanilla game
2. Portrait stands vertically
Be also aware that if you ascend Astarion after getting his reactions to the portrait and statue, he won't initially react to a mirror as though it's the first time he is seeing himself.
How to place the portrait on a wall:
This mod doesn't do anything new for moving the portrait or rotating it aside from making it stand vertically. So if you want to place it on a wall like in my screenshot, you need to install additional mods. I used this one:
Move and Rotate Anything (now with UI)
Huge thanks to lizardphunk for invaluable help with some of the audio issues.
The description of his portrait is heavily inspired by Sims' easter egg for Astarion's grave.
